QUOTE (reese @ Oct 9 2008, 08:21 AM)
On the the news brief at 0800, GMA reported that AIG is planning on asking the federal government for more money (I forget the exact amount--85b?), and, according to one exec., "We'll get it."

Does their arrogance never end?

(I tried to find the link on their site but couldn't.)

Well, when the federal reserve is a private bank just printing money out of thin air, of course it's not a problem. What's another $85 billion to inflate the money supply? All it means is that you and I get poorer.

This infuriates me. Every single person who participated in that "retreat" should be billed for their portion and jailed for theft. I don't care what the excuses are anymore. That was a slap in that face to every taxpayer. I don't believe in the death penalty, but I'd be tempted to see them all hang higher than Haman for that.

I agree with you 110%. This should definitely be the penalty for abusing the taxpayers.

how did barney frank a dem, kill the bill in committee when the repubs held the house and the senate in 2003?
so the repubs gave control of committees to democrats and just shrugged and walked away?
uh-huh.

That's the wrong question.

You should be asking "What did the Democrats do to avert the problem in 2003 when it was brought up by the Bush administration?"
I'll give you your answer - they obstructed any attempt to reform Fannie and Freddie. While stuffing great wads of Fannie and Freddie's money into their pockets.

{sarcarm on} Ah yes, that most definately answers the question of why the Dems didn't support but obstructed GSE reform. {sarcarm off}
Setting McCain up as a strawman is the poorest of debating tactics. And is mostly meaningless in this context as McCain was not part of either the Bush administration (that requested the reform) nor the Finance committee (that obstructed the reform).
And you lose all credibility by resorting to childish name calling.
