In their eyes- God created a horse. Man created the gasoline engine. That's the difference.
Their women. I've seen plenty of attractive Amish women . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If we are going for looks only, being superficial . I've seen plenty of English women who are less appealing as well. Look beyond the surface.
There's alot to be said for their lifestyle, more good then negative. They don't need to have instant gratification . I applaud that.
Other then that farming is hard and I applaud those that take up the avocation. I applaud further those, Amish and otherwise, that elect to take a another trade to supplement their incomes when their primary avocation doesn't cover the bills.

Just from the few posts I've read of yours, your member name fits well the way you come across. I agree with your way of thinking.

I think some people fear the individuality, self-sustaining lifestyle, and the separatist ways the Amish live.

I know one thing, when the SHTF the Amish will hardly be affected.

Despite their buggies being a moderate PITA, they're good folks and I would take one as a neighbor any day.

Agreed. The Amish will survive.

Very well stated! These people are doing honest work. This is a very refreshing story and is newsworthy. Maybe an honest living will catch on to those not believing in it.

Wow. Again I AM STUNNED beyond belief by the opinions on this board.

Sorry, Innocent, I'm not trying to single you out. You were just the one to sum it up.

THIS is typical "LANCASTER" county mentality.

FIRST: It is NOT very well stated. It is stated in ignorance.

SECOND: This is NOT honest work. Pretty freakin' far from it actually.

Let me explain what I mean, THIS is what I saw:
I saw underage CHILDREN working in deplorable conditions, BAREFOOT of all things!! I saw men USING their women and children, hiding behind 'family' ties and God, no less, to do it.

They put together a corporation and sub-contracted to growers and are using child labor and abuse of women to bring it all together and make it profitable, bypassing EVERY OSAHA and labor regulation that exists in the process. That everyone else has to pay out the rear if they do not abide by.

HONEST work? Are you kidding me?!?

Its no wonder why they don't want the words "Amish Made" on their produce. First off, amish MADE? Last I remember, GOD made the onions. The amish, of all people, SHOULD have known that! What's more, to call it 'Locally Grown' instead of 'Amish Made' (STILL makes me laugh that they even CONSIDERED this!) incorporates the whole of Lancaster County and hides the fact that all but three of the ninety farmers are of some amish/mennonite order, meaning that child labor is used in the production. It didn't bother them to put their 'amish' stamp on heaters, did it?

This is NOT a cute family photo-op. This is deplorable. ONLY a Lancaster County mindset could think otherwise. Really people, and you judge us 'outsiders'? Look at how they threat their women, children and horses. They will do ANYTHING for ceaser's gold... just LOOK at what the amish do! EVERYTHING God said of the horse, He said of us. The measure met, yes, even to a horse, will be the measure returned. Tell me, would YOU want to be treated as these men treat THEIR's? Wouldn't be such a pretty pitcure if it were YOU and YOUR barefoot child, would it?

Now that I have seen with my eyes how 'locally grown' is produced, I will NEVER buy it again! I'd rather eat frozen crap then profit this filth. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for speaking for this instead of against it!

Maybe an honest living evaluation will catch on to those not believing in able to see it.

No offense taken. It's their culture. Families work together. Shoes seem to be an option, yet they do wear them when needed from what I understand. Their children are learning how to live and survive. The crimes I've read about haven't been about the Amish. Unless I've missed something. They don't seem to accrue the bills most people do to live and they still work. There are American farmers whose families help out and their children probably help, even barefooted if the weather permits. I don't know much else about the Amish since I haven't lived among them. I understand not all Amish still follow the culture verbatim anymore.
