What does clear mean? Does that mean bring home?? If so, I am going to go to nursing school........

Clear = net income.

you know who really makes a pittance? EMT workers. I couldn't believe how little they were paid when I found out. They have a gruesome task and sometimes it's dangerous. They really need to be paid appropriately.

You know the only reason I can not cry for you Melody is because your husbands patients DO HAVE CAPS. They have caps on how much their insurance will cover meaning more out of pocket even with medical insurance. We don't have medical careers to fall back on. We are plummers, electricians, computer programmers who do not get paid when we can not work yet the bills keep coming. Add medical bills that are sent to collections as soon as 60 days past due to a mortgage, car payment etc with no income because of illness and you have disaster. The government will not help us so what are we supposed to do especially if our disability is the fault of a negligent doctor. I keep hearing all these complaints from docs about frivolous lawsuits yet when I had a legitimate one, I could not find a lawyer or doctor to back me up. I wonder how all these folks get their lawsuits heard.

Cry for me? So you think if my husband lost our job, we're somehow exempt from being out on our asses? You think that if a doctor loses his job, the bills just mysteriously stop coming? That they're privy to some special "government help"? That they're part of some special echelon who magically stays afloat if they are without employment? I've got some bad news for you since you've obviously placed doctors in a completely different strata than the rest of society: if my husband loses his job we are indeed out on our asses...until he can find another one, and the bills do not stop coming. You think we don't need health insurance for some strange reason? More news: we pay for health insurance just like everyone else. And it's just as expensive as yours. And yet more: they are human with the same needs and problems as you. So please cease the "I"m a victim and doctors are the rich, life-sucking, grim reapers bent on destroying me" mentality, please.

I think it would behoove you to stop viewing doctors as "the enemy" when the very large majority of them have devoted their lives to saving strangers' asses. Yourrs included.

yeah well what you are leaving out is that is almost impossible to sue a doctor in lanc co.

$98,000,000 left over and the poor people can't sue a hack but the son of a mean republican judge can and the wimps say nothing.

you don't have to be RICH to win a major-a$$ malpractice case.

know YOUR statutes of limitation and find the law firms that specialize in plaintiff's cases. you got many lawyers to choose from in PA..

method of payment:

contingency fee basis. How does that work?

Medical malpractice attorney fees are often negotiable. Many lawyers will take a malpractice case on a contingency basis, which means that if the case is successful the lawyer will keep a percentage of the settlement, usually between 20 and 40 percent. Many states place a limit on the contingency percentage in medical malpractice cases. Most of these states use a sliding scale based on the amount of the settlement or judgment. For example, fees are allowed up to 33 1/3% for the first $300,000, 25% for the next $300,000, and the percentage then continues to decrease as the plaintiff’s recovery amount increases.

They work 5-7 hours of overtime...that doesn't even equal ONE shift. Still doesn't add up. I bet they gross 60,000 a year, but only working one extra shift will not be enough to clear that much. No way.

Ihavehorns, as i stated they get bonus pay and shift differentals depending on when they work, so if they work 3rd shift on a sunday for instance they make close to $45 an hour, ad that up over the course of a year and it makes a differance. Yes i ment they make 50-60,000 gross. still not to bad, for a 2 year degree. I mean i couldn't do it.

I forgot to mention that by a cap, I meant a cap on the monetary amount a doctor can be sued for, nothing to do with insurance caps.
