The firm, Manheim Township-based Blackford Development Ltd., was to appear before the three-member panel this afternoon. But it asked for and received a second postponement.

Blackford Development is the same firm that is currently proposing a new industrial park on Horseshoe Rd that would develop current farmland. Main tenant of the new industrial park would be the Jay group, based in Ronks. They're proposing to build their new headquarters at the site, which would include an office building and warehouse.

Blackford Development seems to have their hands in an number of projects that don't necessarily benefit Lancaster County.

Yeah, go figure. A local company wants to build a new headquarters and warehouse that would employ hundreds of people in the local community..... yeah, real bad for the County..... I guess we would be better off if they went somewhere else.

Actually, the new headquarters and warehouse will consolidate two existing warehouses and cause many people to lose their jobs due to redundancy. Good for the company . . . not necessarily good for the community or workforce.

And why is it they feel the need to build on farmland when they already own two large parcels of land (not farmland) in the Lancaster area, and one very large parcel of land in Etown?

The Etown facility, although huge, is already near full capacity.

Correct, but that doesn't discount the expansion capacity of the Etown facility (and plans were drawn up a while ago). It also doesn't discount the fact that they already own two other parcels of land with sufficient expansion capacity, sold off a third already, but yet feel the need to build on farmland.
