This newest bandwagon, so overcrowded with the political and economic elite that it looks like a clown car, is just one more proof that the city should have taken the time, money and thought to develop a true Comprehensive Plan for the city before any major development started.

One would have thought that years ago, when we were still working out what the convention facility would actually be, the Fulton, the symphony, the academy of music, the college of art, F&M & every other major draw to the city would have done some growth projections and shared them with each other.

The resulting needs would have been painfully obvious. A multi-use facility that would serve the city's interests and visitors equally. In the right location. With enough square footage, and parking and access to local stores & restaurants & hotel rooms and and and and and....

...and not one of the maroons spouting about how they have vision for the city, supposedly more than we have, could see what was right in front of their faces.

And none of them will have the ba11s to step up to the plate and stop the runaway train. Not one, especially our visionary Mayor, will suggest that we could..... now hang on Artie and give this some thought, PLEASE.....

that we could stop all activity at Penn Square while it hasn't gone too far. Consider spending MORE money (yes, more), but spending it to rethink and redesign the entire convention center facility to serve both convention needs (if they exist), AND serve the real existing needs already present in the city and certain to grow if facilitated.

If the Watt & Shand site could serve the alleged convention business AND continually serve the needs of Lancaster's performing arts, not to mention imported performing arts , AND serve the academy and the college of art and even F&M,

well call me crazy if you will, but the whole darned thing might actually become a viable asset to the city. A winner, if you will. More expensive maybe, but with infinitely greater chances of being used and appreciated by everyone.

Which, unfortunately, is exactly why I think none of our "visionaries" will have the steel to even suggest it, let alone take bold action and make it happen.

When you build the thing make sure that the marquee is in spanish so we can read it

Thanks for the best laugh I've had all day. They'll probably need some kind of a picture menu on that marquee for the English-only crowd too.

I agree with Artie, regarding the CC. if it had been designed properly it could have had the ability to be a venue for touring concerts, especially if you could put in 2000-2500 ticket holders for a country and western act. The American music theater is too small for these acts, the types that appeared at the Clip when it first opened.( I suspect that they stopped doing shows there because it tore up the turf). So now it's being proposed to build another venue to accomodate those things that the CC should have been able to accommodate. So now we'll have two venues that will only be booked 4 days a month?

Where are the studies to show whether it's viable? Where is the cost benefit ratio?
