Our fathers and grandfathers made more sacrifices for the cause they were fighting for when it was needed, in their day.
Watching the Ken Burns documentary on PBS over the last two weeks drove that point home clearly. The country was united around a common goal.
They also developed nuclear weapons, engaged in the Cold War, meddled in the affairs of countless nations in order to gain wealth, and on and on. Many of the problems we face now are a result of things our fathers did. Just look at the Middle East.
I have always agreed that there are problems now, which our children will have to deal with. There are also good things happening in the world now, which will benefit our children as well. In other words, nothing has really changed, and the world goes on.

I really could not make the protest. I was out of town on business, and I didn't get home until late. That is the truth. I don't have the option of leaving a customer until my work is done. I am sorry that you cannot accept the reality of the situation.
And I really don't appreciate your criticism of my statement that I'm glad I won't live to see the worst of it. That is the way I feel, as a direct result of the direction this country has taken. I can't help it if you can't accept that at face value. Your public criticism of my opinion isn't going to help change it, in fact you have gone a long way toward reinforcing it.
I understand Jack Kevorkian got out of jail not too long ago.
