Seriously get rid of your petty attacks.
Will both of you PLEASE grow up, and drop it?

This thread is about an extremely serious issue with potentially extensive repercussions. It is deserving of serious discussion from ALL viewpoints.

Personal attacks are EXACTLY why participation in Lancaster Online is down significantly. Your sniping may have ended serious discussion in this thread.

If Pedro wants to start a thread that says "Ron has no bite", please do so, only those who want to post will. If Ron wants to start a thread about "Petty attacks", please do it, and only those who want to participate will.

The administrators of LOL have not gotten involved in the past until things have gotten out of hand. But when they have, it's not been pretty.

PLEASE respect the rest of us, and keep the personal stuff personal.

This suit is appalling. A free press is necessary to help defend the liberty we enjoy. The thought of a public official suing a newspaper makes me ill. What if government officials sued Ron Harper for publishing the things he does on his web site? Imagine the chilling effect this would have on his or other's report/opinions.
Whether or not you agree with the coverage, an independent press is vital to our democracy.

You would be correct: HOWEVER....once the financial stakes and potential benefits to the company that publishes the paper are so great that it biases its covereage, the rules are null and void.
To assume the self-righteousness of a newspaper in light of financial gain is identical to assuming that a priest would never molest a child. In both scenarios, the offending entity hides behind the perception of propriety. It is our civic responsibility to not be so gullible.

Actually, the rules aren't null and void. The courts have extended great leeway to newspapers of all kinds when the topic is an elected official. How do you think the National Enquirer manages to exist? How do you think Ron Harper hasn't been sued to oblivion?
