The biggest mistake people made was going with an oil company that did not have the experience in the market, as indicated by a comment in the article.

People shop around for oil, like any other service in a market driven economy. But it is buyer beware when you go with a cheaper price.

Everyone should do some research on the fiscal and physical stability of a company before putting so much trust into a company with the responsibility they have.

I am so glad that we do not heat our home with oil. With the sky rocketing prices, I am wondering how people are going to be able to afford to heat their homes at all.......

I used to have a contract with Davis for several years. When I got the letter stateing the company was under new management, I called the office and was told the company staff including drivers, technicians, and all customer service people will remain, just the owner changed.

Long story short, they let my tank run dry. I called another company who assured me they could handle my account properly. They filled my tank within 2 hrs of my call. Needless to say I called Davis and cancelled my contract immediately.

By the way, this happened LAST February 2007.

Doesn't that do damage to the furnace when the oil tank runs dry? Or there is sediment in the bottom of the tank. I can't remember what the problem is, but I am so paranoid about stuff like that, I check the level and call if it gets to 1/4. I am on automatic delivery and I've never gotten below 1/2. Very happy with Worley and Obetz. Had a problem one time with miscommunication and when I told them I was leaving, the manager called back and made every thing right.

no, the furnace won't run if there is no oil. the sediment will be caught by the inline filter.
