Rescue groups dishonest

Editor, New Era:

After reading Judi Rineer's letter on Oprah and "puppy mills," I was compelled to write about my knowledge of rescue groups.

Why did Oprah's show seem like an advertisement for Bill Smith and MainLine Animal Rescue?

What rescue groups like his fail to tell Oprah is the numbers of dogs that are flown in from various countries and represented as being Lancaster County puppy-mill rescues.

They also fail to mention that rescue groups today are actually purchasing puppies from legitimate, state-licensed and inspected kennels with false identity, for re-sale as puppy-mill rescues.

To me, the reason for this is simple: They operate under cover as non-profit organizations actually raking in billions of dollars, with no taxes to pay!

When the new comment period for dog-law advisory opens, each of our legislators will be informed of the truth, along with photos of how humane leagues and homes fostering rescue dogs are kept.

Has honesty become extinct? Maybe these rescue groups should start campaigning with the Clintons, along with our governor, to see who can create the biggest lies.

Don't believe her eyes are brown so I'd say mostly full of it.

I've never dealt with main line rescue.
However, the rescue orgs I have dealt with simply want a good home for the dogs they have that can be placed. No donation is requested, just food, kindness and caring.
Even if he does ask for a donation, let's face it, he says the organization has rescued 5,000 dogs. I'd bet a lot of them required vet care, which even if the vet provideds his services for free, I'm sure there's medications and tools (scalpals, X-rays) which are not.

Sounds like a puppy mill owner who is upset. There are a lot of barking chicken houses, dogs in rabbit hutches or only on 3 ft. tie-outs all over East Earl township. Bet the Oprah expose has hurt business.
I can only hope.

I know someone who has puppies to sell and had 4 people scheduled to show up on the Saturday after the Oprah expose aired to check out the puppies. All cancelled their appointments.
Good. Back yard breeders are bad business. Puppy mills are worse, much, much worse. If you want a dog, go to an animal shelter please. You're not just saving one pet, you're saving two.
The one you take home is the first, the one who takes his place is the second.

I'm sure that Oprah's staff thoroughly investigated this before agreeing to do the show. IF any of what Dee Louise Burkholder claims is true, I would think Oprah's people would've bagged the show. Don't you think so too?

Those are some wild claims you got there, ma'am. Any proof?

Yes, i'm VERY anxious to see the truth behind those comments.
