because it happened here, in the oh-so-bucolic, scenic, pleasant area of lancaster county, it is obviously so very "different" than anywhere else. so of course, every reporter in the world needs to be in on it. it's like crack for these idiots....
why?
I was born in Lancaster, my sister still lives in Lancaster County. On news reports I saw here in Florida about this story, Pennsylvania was mentioned, but I didn't here that it was "Amish Country" or even that this was Lancaster County. I admit, I didn't watch the cable news channels. In fact I mentioned to my sister on the phone that now (Sat 4/15) this story has not been mentioned on the Miami television stations for a couple days now. I also think your local media lead heavily in the frenzy. I was at my sister's on Thanksgiving and remember all the stories about the murder of the girl friends parents by her boyfriend. I thought it was a bit much, but I find the articles in the Lancaster papers a lot different than "big city" papers. They wouldn't print half that stuff here. Like the "Police Log" we don't have room for that kinda stuff here.

The Nancy Grace CNN was too much. What does the Amish have to do with this???

The other thing of interest, is all crime investigators know that killings like this (strangle of the victims, bludgeoning or (I know there were no stbbings here) & stabbings are always thought of as "personal" murders. Usually the victims knew the attackers. I'm sure it was obvious to the police that this was not a random killing. I'm sure they suspected right away the victims knew their attacker.

Again, the Lancaster County and Amish angle on this is really stupid. This was a relative who killed his own family. It's not like some crazed killer was loose looking for his next victim or victims.

I think these cable news shows get carried away. I don't have cable anymore. I lost the line after Hurrican Wilma struck Florida and I didn't replace it. I don't miss it much either. If people didn't watch these shows and there endless speculations, they wouldn't get ratings and advertisers. So in a way, you get what people are watching. Basically for the most part unfounded speculation and poor journalism.

I work in NJ and PA weekly with a house here and one 300 feet from the beach. With that said the perception of Lancaster County for years was a piece of heaven. The people in Philly and NJ see a lot of crime there however NOTHING like the Lititz executions and now this in Leola. Once the media gets a hold of this Lancaster County's image is toast. It will NEVER be the same. This is the new Killing Fields.

Uhm, the national news media was all over both these events. If you think Philly and NJ residents have never known of crime like this in their areas, then they must be as out-of-touch with the news as you are. A former mainliner, I know all about crime in and around Philly and NJ from the past and currently, as the philly news stations air here in Lancaster too. I suggest you tune in on occasion, or pick up a Philadelphia paper. Apparently, you'd be amazed.

Until our crime rates reach that of the city of Philadelphia or some areas of NJ, I don't think Lancaster has much to worry about with regard to tourist industry income, though I know many of us, native and transplants, would be happy to see Lancaster move forward with a hunting license during the tourist high season....................

"It's tourist season. Why can't we shoot them?" - best bumper sticker I've ever seen.

Nancy Grace is no longer allowed to be viewed on our TV. The twisting of everything that she put together for this story just furthers my belief that it is what shed does with all stories. She does a great job of sensationalist journalism. That is all she is. She makes numerous snide remarks along the way (In this case Amish related.) all to futher her sensationlist view of the story. We are done with her in our home. No interest in hearing her one sided views.
