Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board announced Wednesday that it has assembled experts across the state to guarantee customer satisfaction at all Wine & Spirits stores.

The new Wine Advisory Council is made up of restaurant owners, hotel managers and wine experts across Pennsylvania given the task of finding the best values and selections.

Liquor Control Board representative Nick Hays said the council was formed in response to poor customer survey results from 2007.

"Customers were saying that visiting a Wine & Spirits store was more like a chore, and they rarely spent more than eight minutes per visit," he said. "As a specialty retailer, the stores should be doing much better than that."

In addition to adding a wider selection of wines and liquor to the shelves, Hays said employees of Wine & Spirits stores will now receive more education and training so they can interact with the customers and make helpful suggestions.

The Liquor Control Board has retained Landor Associates, an international leader in brand-led business transformation, to oversee the changes made to statewide stores and the online store.

Hays said these changes will launch a revolutionary shift in the wine and spirits shopping experience in Pennsylvania.

Patrick Stapleton III, chairman of the PLCB, announced the customer-focused program Wednesday at the Giant Center in Hershey prior to the start of the Wine Festival.

Council members will include Bill Kohl, president and CEO of Harrisburg Hotel Corp., and Alex Sebastian, owner of the Wooden Angel restaurant in Beaver.

New members will be named in the coming months.

Stapleton said the council is part of an initiative to improve customers' shopping experience at the PLCB's 620 stores.

A survey of 2,000 customers last year was "a real wake-up call," he said in a release. "Less than half our customers told us they were satisfied with their shopping experience."

The advisory council also will provide tasting notes for wines that will be available in the stores, serve as brand ambassadors for the LCB and work with customers at special in-store events.

I agree. I think they are now realizing how much they lost when they got rid of Chairman Neuman. In regards to wine, he was actually doing a very good job within the confines of the system. He found some great wines for great prices. They made a huge mistake letting him go, and are now suffering the consequences.

I agree too. I have found the best place to buy wine in Lanc. Cty. is the Wine and Spirits shop on Fruitville Pike (next to Panera Bread). Huge selection, for us PLCB-bound PA residents that is.

Yep, thats where I get my wine as well. A year or two ago, the selection was even better thanks to the then Chariman. Now that his selections have moved through the system, I've noticed the offerings have really slipped. There are still a few good ones, but I think it will continue to get worse without Jonathan.

The state doesn`t belong in the business, period.Get out, now. The argument that alcoholism and the other problems mentioned would get worse doesn`t hold water. It`s a strong union lobbying to keep them open

I just got back from a store a few miles south of the Buck. They have a very good selection of wine.I just bought 60$ worth of wine that would have cost a lot more in Lancaster, and,it`s closer

Anyone try Yellow Tail. It`s from Australia. They make very good Merlot,Shiraz, and Cabernet's.I also tried another Aussie wine last week.Mattie`s Perch, white shiraz. It`s a rose color. It has tastes of strawberry and vanilla. We had it with a very good cheese cake.It knocked my socks off

I had to add.
Did any of you ever go to the wine store in Claymont,Del? It`s as big as a Wal-Mart. If you`ve never been there,do your self a favor, see it.It`s not just wine, they have everything you could want to drink. And,it`s CHEAP! For those of you that still smoke there`s a smoke shop right next store and guess what? Their CHEAP too.....
