I live in this area and very much appreciate what F&M has done. They have significantly improved my neighborhood, and I travel Hbg Pike every morning and every evening with no issues. Sometimes I wonder what our neighborhoods would be like if F&M wasnt here. One of the biggest reasons houses are still worth something in this area is directly connected to them.

I live in the direct path of students traveling between two fraternity houses.....and in the four years sionce I have had the house, had no problems with students. We have had student housing directly across the street from my house, and no problems. I can't tell you the last time that I saw a Lanc City Police car on my block, but I constantly see F&M security.

For those who believe living next to F&M is so horrible, I would say take a look at some of the other neighborhoods in the city. There are so many other areas that residents are constantly battling trash and crime. And the only thing you can complain about in the northwest is overhearing a college students conversation as they walk down the street. Yes there is the occasional issue, but nowhere near what others deal with. It's the city, with lots of people in close proximity, you are going to have some issues from time to time.

This weekend is graduation.

Poll the hotels and restaurants on Monday and see how they like F&M.

Great. A once a year mini-bonanza for area restaurants.
Smarty pants, more like. You were looking for lists?

This weekend is fill in the blank: Football game, move-in day, alumni weekend, conference tournamant, playoff game, academic conference, parent's weekend, swim meet, function, tradeshow, consumer show at the new gym............

The residents who live in the area, travel the H'burg Pike, and the emergency services have a very different view of what F&M has done on that road -- including impeding emergency vehicles having to turn into the narrow lanes, and those trapped behind a line of traffic with sirens blaring and NOWHERE TO GO TO GET AROUND!!!
I mean, while we're quoting chapter and verse, I work in and regularly travel this area, can you cite the police log entries on this? I don't see it.

I am seriously not trying to be a wiseguy. But in all seriousness, exactly how does ANYTHING on your list benefit Lancaster? Okay, they have a big building which they very occasionally rent out, but they ditch events like the Arts & Crafts weekend because it no longer serves their purpose.

Understand, F&M exists for the benefit of their students, and their purpose is education and their own longevity. Fine. I get it. It is their perpetual lie that they want what is best for LANCASTER that just bugs the heck out of MOST local residents.

As for police logs -- I have no access -- knock yourself out! I have on two occasions been in a line of traffic, once with a police car behind, and once with an ambulance, unable to swing around traffic. I posted one of those occasions on another thread a while ago, because, with ambulance siren blaring, the driver laying on the horn, the cars ahead of me, while looking in the rearview mirror, proceeded through the red light in order to clear a path -- the problem was, there was traffic entering making left turns -- a HUGE near miss. And a big mess. I wonder if ambulances and fire engines are going to be forced to use Marietta Ave...
I don't know any EMTs or fire fighters locally.

Whether you are for or opposed to F&M's future plans for development, the most pressing issue remains the school's unwillingness to address its most persistent problem--parking! The former dorms--south of Harrisburg Pike--have severely inadequate parking for the students residing there. Students expect and deserve to have parking convenient to where they reside. Instead, they must use the closest streets. Resident parking lots should be located on campus next to the dorms and facilitate the number of students living there. They should not be forced to use relatively remote public streets which prove to be riskier because they cannot be patrolled effectively. Though cameras assist after the fact, they cannot satisfactorily prevent theft. Moreover, students are careless with possessions left inside their cars and this encourages theft in otherwise crime-free neighborhoods. Now F&M proposes yet another dorm in that same vicinity, and we can only hope they have the good judgment this time to provide ample parking adjacent to the building(s), and not apart from it/them, which would only encourage students to continue with problematic street parking. F&M's decision-makers need to exercise far better responsibility and thoughtfulness towards the neighboring community.
