While recycling of plastics should be applauded, fur does not need that kind of help to be considered green. The article correctly states two of fur's advantages over petro-chemical synthetics: it is long-lasting and biodegradable. But there are many more besides. For further reading, see the feature Sensitive and Smart from Fur Commission USA http://www.furcommission.com/environ/index.html and in particular the article "Plastic Bags on our Backs" http://www.furcommission.com/resource/perspect999ce.htm
The Fur Council of Canada also explains the green credentials of fur at http://www.furcouncil.com/ecological.aspx
Animal rightists will call it "green wash". Conversely, true "green washing" is their attempt to have us all clothed in alternatives such as "faux fur", made from ... you guessed it ... OIL!

Imai said the composite material — ranging in price from $12,000 for a mink bolero to $83,000 for the chinchilla cape — allows her clientele, who include the Japanese royal family and celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, to feel green, even when they're buying fur.

If it makes them feel good, that's all that counts. Right? Spare me faux fur and fabrics.
