While some benefits kick in after 180 continuous days of service, I agree that 3 years is too short. I'm not exactly sure where the magical "break-even" date falls but I believe it is somewhere around 46 - 52 months.
A student attending a military academy like the Air Force Academy, they are locked into a 6 year obligation and I believe 4 years to be eligible for the GI-Bill is better.
Nope, its a 5 year obligation. At least it was when i applied. Now also we are talking about men serving in war time, this isn't just normal military service where they are sitting on bases and doing training. They are in active combat zones. This is no differant than WWII. I think 3 years is fine, these men are putting their life on the line for us. I thought the Republican Party was all about the troops? Guess thats just lip service again, when it comes to putting they money where their mouths are, they come up short again. Plus the men coming out of the service academys are already at a higher pay grade etc then the regular GI's so they are making out ok too.
