Two Turkey Hill stores robbed

A man carrying a rifle with a scope robbed the Turkey Hill convenience store at 936 Columbia Ave. late Friday and then fled with cigarettes and cash, city police said.

He entered the store shortly before midnight and demanded money and cartons of Newport cigarettes from the clerk, police said.

The robber left the scene in a full-size red 1990s pickup truck, police said.

He was described as being in his late 20s or early 30s. He is 5 feet, 4 inches to 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has a medium build and skin tone. He had a mustache and goatee and he was wearing a black "Ecko" brand short-sleeved T-shirt, white shorts with black trim and white sneakers.

Anyone with information about the robber is urged to call police at 735-3301 or Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913. Callers may remain anonymous.

Also, a man with a handgun robbed the Turkey Hill convenience store register at 2525 N. Reading Road at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, East Cocalico Township police said. The robber  fled on foot, police said.

GUN ARREST:
An 18-year-old Lancaster man was arrested Saturday after a disturbance and charged with multiple offenses, including carrying a firearm without a license.

Police said Officer Ryan Hockley found Ryan David Kurtz, of the 1000 block of Tom Paine Drive, hiding in bushes in the 1600 block of Judie Lane.

Sgt. Damon Greathouse then found a semi-automatic handgun in the same bush.

Witnesses immediately identified Kurtz as a participant in the disturbance, police said.

The gun had been stolen in Manor Township, police said.

Officer Herb Watson charged Kurtz with two felonies — carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property — and also with simple assault, underage drinking and public drunkenness.

Charges were brought before District Magistrate Mary Sponaugle, police said, and Kurtz was held for arraignment.

ACCIDENTS:
Traveling south in the 900 block of Dry Tavern Road, Barry Lee Hartranft, Jr., 36, of Ephrata, drifted into oncoming traffic and struck the driver's side mirrors of a northbound Fivepointville ambulance driven by Debra A. Sensenig, 43, of Terre Hill, at 10:12 a.m. Saturday, State Police at Ephrata said.

After the impact, Hartranft's head struck his mirror, causing a laceration on the left side of his head, He was treated and released from Ephrata Community Hospital, police said.

•State Police at Lancaster reported that Peter Conway, 70, of Lancaster, was heading south on North Belmont Road, Paradise Township, Saturday morning when he turned in front of a northbound vehicle  driven by Ruth Kline, 53, in an attempt to make a left turn onto Harristown Road.

Police said Kline was unable to stop and her vehicle struck the Conway car on the front passenger side. The collision happened at 9:30 a.m.

BIKES TAKEN:
Two mountain bikes were stolen from Ephrata Borough homes overnight Friday, but found discarded and returned to the owners Saturday, Ephrata police said.

A bike was taken from the front porch of a home in the first block of Broad Street, and a  bike was stolen from the 100 block of Church Street, according to police.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF:
Timothy V. Kashner, 23, of the first block of East Queen Street, Ephrata, was sent to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail on charges of criminal mischief and two counts of theft Saturday, Ephrata police said.

Residents of West Sunset Avenue heard glass breaking at 3 a.m. Saturday, called police, then followed Kashner down the alley where they saw him break into a car with a brick, rummage through a pickup truck and try to steal a motorcycle from a backyard, police said. When police arrived, he was caught after a brief foot chase.

DRUG CHARGES:
Jordan Michael Moyer, 48, of Cleona, Shea Daniel Maldet, 20, of Lititz, and Andrew Michael Collins, 18, of Lebanon, were charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, Friday, State Police at Ephrata said. Moyer was  stopped for speeding on Route 72 at Cider Press Road at 7:45 p.m, police said.

•Hector R. Burgos-Torres, 20, of the first block of West Farnum Street, was charged by city police with possession of small amount of marijuana after he was seen rolling marijuana at 11:50 p.m. Friday.

FIRES:
Firefighters responded to a blaze in a wood shop at 229 Napierville Road, East Cocalico Township, at 2:46 a.m. Saturday.

•City firefighters reported a trash fire at 5 a.m. Saturday in the first block of North Plum Street.

GAMBLING:
The Amvets Home Association Colombia Post 153 was charged with a liquor law violation Thursday by the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, State Police at Lancaster said.

HARASSMENT:
Kevin Leo Troupe, 49, Paradise, and Richard Lee King, 31, Leola, are being charged with harassment, State Police at Lancaster said.

King grabbed Troupe, who then hit King in the face at 5:45 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of South Kinzer Road, Paradise Township, troopers said.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS:
City police cited Anthony M. Roberts, 25, of Dover, with public drunkenness at 10:29 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Water Street.

•Pedro J. Martinez, 59, of the 300 block of South Queen Street, was cited for public drunkenness at 9:23 p.m. Friday after he fell off a bar stool at an address in the 400 block of Manor Street.

RETAIL THEFT:
City police said  Capri McRae, 18, of the 600 block of Marietta Avenue, was charged with retail theft at 1:36 p.m. Saturday after she and a friend placed items from a business in the first block of North Queen Street in a purse.

•Jasmine Rosado, 22, of the 200 block of North Franklin Street, was charged with retail theft at Park City Center at 9:12 p.m. Friday by city police after she was seen concealing cards, clothes and a picture frame in a Kohl's shopping bag.

•Fior M. Vallejo, 31, of the 300 block of East Clay Street, was charged with retail theft by city police at 5:45 p.m. Friday after she was seen concealing  jewelry from Boscov's at Park City Center.

SCOOTER STOLEN:
A grey and silver Omni scooter, license plate RHT85, was stolen from a home in the first block of Franklin Street early Saturday, Ephrata police said. Contact police at 738-9200 with information.

STOLEN SIGN:
An advertisement sign was taken from the front of the Friendly Perfume and Novelty store in the first block of Main Street, Ephrata, overnight Friday. It was recovered on East Franklin Street and returned Saturday, Ephrata police said.

THEFTS:
State Police at Lancaster investigated the theft of money from a residence in the first block of Pinnacle Road, Martic Township. The loss happened between noon on May 22 and 2 p.m. on May 23, police said.

•Troopers from State Police at Lancaster investigated the theft of a ring Friday from a residence in the 100 block of Kimberly Court, Providence Township.

•Brian Joseph McSurdy, 37, of the 400 block of Bunker Hill Road, Strasburg, and a city boy were charged with defiant trespass, theft and criminal conspiracy, West Lampeter Township police said. Police accused the pair of entering the U.S. Wrecking property at 390 Eckman Road shortly after 8 p.m. May 23 and trying to take copper wire.

•Rita Ann Bellini, 59, of Birdsboro, took herbs and flowers from the Black Creek Greenhouse, 211 East Black Creek Road, in Brecknock Township  between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, State Police at Ephrata said.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE:
Money, keys, sunglasses and compact discs were taken from a car parked in the 100 block of Grant Street, Ephrata, overnight Thursday, Ephrata police said. Contact police at 738-9200 with information.

TRESPASSING:
Douglas A. Herr, 23, of Ephrata, was charged with trespassing Thursday for damaging a gravestone with his car while driving through Cedar Hill Cemetery Wednesday at 10:30 p.m., Ephrata police said.

•Erica R. Rudolph, 24, no address, was charged with criminal trespass by city police at 7 p.m. Friday after she was found in a condemned building in the 400 block of High Street.

VEHICLE DAMAGE:
The driver's side window of a vehicle was broken at the Green Dragon Farmer's Market, 955 North State Street, between 11:30 a.m and 2:30 p.m. Friday, Ephrata police said.

WARRANTS:
Randy Lane, 20, of the 700 block of East Chestnut Street, was brought by Manheim Township police to the city police station at 3:57 a.m. Saturday on three warrants.

•Dwight Soto, 40, of the 200 block of Hazel Street, was pulled over by city police at 3:51 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Wabank Street on a stop sign violation and found to have six outstanding warrants.

Another Turkey Hill has been robbed tonight. Just accurred at the Manor Street location at 11:00pm. White male,mid 30's, 6 foot tall, light color coat over his head with a golf club (yeah... a golf club). Left store heading south.
