A young man went to the Lancaster state police barracks on Route 30 East early Sunday morning to pick up a buddy who had been arrested for suspected drunken driving, troopers said.
But the would-be chauffeur also wasn't sober, troopers said. So he, too, was arrested for suspected drunken driving.
Daniel Modesto Velcheck, 20, Lancaster, and Philip Alan Wenger, 20, Lancaster, were among the more than 15 motorists that Lancaster County police arrested in recent days for suspected drunken driving.
Lancaster state police stopped Velcheck at 4:02 a.m. Sunday in the area of North Conestoga Drive and Nassau Road in Lancaster Township.
Wenger came to the state police barracks, 2099 Lincoln Highway East, shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday to pick up Velcheck.
"After contact with Wenger, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested for DUI," Cpl.. Mark A. Magyar said.
Others arrested for suspected drunken driving were:
• Marshall Hoellwarth, 26, of Elizabethtown. Ephrata state police stopped him early Friday morning on Route 772 at Route 283 in Rapho Township.
• Mark Collier, 29, of the 100 block of College Avenue. Manor Township police stopped him at 1:53 a.m. today on Columbia Avenue, near Millersville Road.
• Jessica Shimko, 28, of the 100 block of North Poplar Street, Elizabethtown. Manor Township police stopped her at 3:06 a.m. today on East Main Street (Route 462) in Mountville.
• Jason P. Dever, 34, of the 100 block of Park Avenue, Ephrata. Manheim Township police arrested him following an accident shortly before 10 p.m. Friday on Route 272 at White Oak Drive, north of Landis Valley Road. Dever's vehicle struck the back of a vehicle operated by a 17-year-old Manheim Township girl, police said.
• George Hargrove, 45, of the 700 block of South Christian Street. Manheim Township police arrested him following a one-vehicle crash at 10:23 p.m. Friday on Eden Road at East Roseville Road. Police said Hargrove drove into a concrete culvert.
• Steven Robert Bowers, 52, of Willow Street. Lancaster state police stopped him at 12:24 a.m. Sunday on Route 272, near Pennsy Road, in Providence Township.
• Anita Ajnanette Moatz, 30, of Blue Ridge Summit, Franklin County. Lancaster state police stopped her at 1:10 a.m. Sunday on westbound Route 30 at Oakview Road in East Lampeter Township.
• Shawn Stanley Brown, 37, of Cross, S.C., near Charleston. Lancaster state police stopped him at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Route 30, west of Route 896, in East Lampeter Township.
• Paula Juanita Ellingson, 32, of Middletown. State police stopped her at 3:25 a.m. Friday on Route 283 at Spooky Nook Road in East Hempfield Township.
• Nicholas Nelson Gunzenhauser, 20, of Lancaster. State police stopped him at 4:02 a.m. Sunday on Conestoga Drive at East King Street in Lancaster Township.
• Brian Neal Houck, 41, of Providence Township. State police stopped him at 8:10 p.m. Friday on Route 272, south of Mount Airy Road, in Providence Township..
• Christian Jay Glick, 20, Paradise. State police stopped him at 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 5300 block of Mine Road in Salisbury Township.
• Debra Ovalle, 41, Lancaster. State police arrested her for suspected DUI and for possession of marijuana following a vehicle stop at 11:38 p.m. Thursday on Route 462, near Route 30, in East Lampeter Township.
• Profirio Paul Irizarry, 53, Lancaster. State police stopped him at 2:13 a.m. Friday on Route 462, near Conestoga Drive, in Lancaster Township.
• Donna M. Taylor, 29, Quarryville. State police stopped her at 8:34 p.m. Thursday on Fairview Road at Fork Lane in Providence Township. She also was charged with possession of marijuana and for driving with a suspended license, police said.
• Alex William Rodriguez, 21, Quarryville. State police stopped him at 10:05 p.m. Thursday on Route 462 at Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township.
• Kathleen Lee Kelly, 54, Lancaster. State police stopped her Thursday at East King Street and Broad Street in Lancaster Township.
