Thank you.

Now if I understand everything correctly, F&M and NS are basically going to 'swap' land and bc NS had no reason to abandon their existing expansion plan, F&M is going to foot the bill to properly prep the land for build out. This is going to be expensive, does anyone have the figure?

Luckily for Fry, who may be in danger of draining the endowment with his empire-building, F&M wont have to pay for this either, for that is the job given to PA taxpayers! Two different state funds will pick up this tab-a 'green' initiative and PennDoT rails improvement fund.

The thing that gets me is that this isn't a must-do (like decaying bridges) this is nice-to-do (for F&M that is). Every dollar that is given to F&M is a dollar NOT spent on a real improvement issue. Remember, NS had every intention to expand on their land- if this occurs, it wont cost the tax payers anything (tax payers are paying for the land prep not the actual rail construction). As I indicated before, it is nice to have friends in Harrisburg!

Where do you think NS was going to get the funding to expand before this swap? That's right, from the same tax bucket. If it isn't labeled "green" it gets labeled "economic development". And heck it isn't even costing us a third of what the convention center will and at least NS pays taxes! So don't go after F&M or NS here, again, it goes back to the politicians. Go after them.
I guess what I am trying to say is that we were going to foot the bill regardless of the location. So why not move it to a secluded area with less impact on the public.

I did. Most of those arguments were adequately refuted in other posts.

Actually, I did not see where they were refuted at all. Instead, you ignored the at-risk behaviors inherant with a stub ended yard. Which is why today no one builds them. Even grain elevators no longer build stub ended yards as they are operationally deficient.
If those who commented about blocked crossings ever thought about it, a stub ended yard take five times as many moves to yard a train as a through yard does. Which of course means increased times on grade crossings as the conductor must do a lot of walking to perform his work. In the winter, the times would be tripled.

Are any of the Ivy league schools that have been noted here ever had, in modern history, a president who did not have a Ph.D.? Fry does not possess one and I think that would certainly be a hindrance to him unless he bites the bullet and gets one.

Did you see the piece on him and his wheeling and dealing in the NYTimes? "A New Breed of College Presidents" -- he thinks he can make it based on the BUSINESS and DEVELOPER and FUND-RAISER and EMPIRE BUILDER model and be a FIRST. He doesn't want or cannot get a PhD. But he wants the position, and is setting about trying to do it via another way.

All parties are culpable.

I am talking about the land prep costs. If NS built on their existing land, we are not paying to clean up a dump.

You do make a good point however that NS would be dipping their hand into the 'honey pot' even if they expanded on their own yard. I would love to see a comparison of what it would cost tax payers under each scenario. Also, under the current plan, specifically which entity (FM or NS) applied for the money?
