Lancaster County police arrested a burglary suspect and an alleged fleeing motorist early Wednesday.
An alarm sent East Lampeter Township police rushing to the Gro-Mor Plant Food firm, 281 Farmland Road, Leola, at 1:15 Wednesday morning.
Officer Doug Jaquith said he saw a white Ford panel-type van accelerating as he pulled up to the business. The officer turned around and followed the van, which he said turned into a farm lane in the 200 block of East Eby Road.
Walter Millisock, 43, of the 300 block of East Main Street, New Holland, drove the van into an alfalfa field and then got out and started running, Jaquith said.
"I found him lying down in the field," the officer said.
Millisock allegedly had stolen a new $289 chainsaw from the Gro-Mor firm, Jaquith said. He was charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property as the van was reported stolen from Terre Hill, the officer said.
Millisock also was on parole for two counts of burglary, Jaquith said.
In Lancaster, police pursued a 2004 Volvo allegedly driven by John Buckwalter, 19, of 24 Echo Valley Drive, New Providence, across the west end of the city at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Buckwalter sped away from Officers Michael Dean and David Hershiser in the first block of West Orange Street and drove 80 to 90 mph, police said.
The fleeing motorist traveled on West Orange Street, Nevin Street, and East Chestnut Street before coming to a stop in the 100 block of North Pine Street, police said.
Buckwalter is being charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, fleeing-eluding police, two red-light violations, a stop-sign violation and speeding, police said.
