Fuel and copper continue to be popular magnets for thieves in Lancaster County.
Lancaster state police are investigating two fuel thefts that happened between Thursday and Saturday at separate locations in Providence Township.
On the property of James Eisenberger, 52, of the first block of Schoolhouse Road, New Providence, thieves stole 400 gallons of diesel fuel from a storage tank, Trooper James A. Spencer said.
The fuel was stolen by an unknown method, police said. A loss figure was unavailable.
Spencer said Paul Funk III, 46 of New Providence, had five gallons of gas stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Mount Hope School Road.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Lancaster state police at 299-7650.
Lancaster state police also are investigating a burglary and attempt to steal copper at at Ambassadors for Christ Inc., 21 Ambassador Drive, Paradise.
Thieves entered the organization's building, which is in Paradise Township, between Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning by removing two air conditioning units on the top floor, Trooper Brian Dolan reported.
One inside the building, the intruders tried to remove copper piping, the trooper said.
A burglary in Martic Township has resulted in an arrest, state police said.
Shawn Paul Deitzel, 19, of Washington Boro, entered a garage in the first block of River Road, Pequea, on Saturday night and stole items from two vehicles, Trooper Timothy Repp said.
Deitzel was taken into custody and charged with burglary. The victim was Alfred A. Wright Jr., Repp said.
Elsewhere:
• Lancaster City police early today arrested a man who allegedly tried to get rid of an unloaded handgun.
Wilson Gonzalez-Acosta, 21, of 28 S. Prince St., was to be arraigned this morning on charges of carrying a firearm without a license and resisting arrest.
Officer J. J.Hatfield said Gonzalez-Acosta was walking through alleys around the 200 block of West Vine Street at about 2 a.m today. When Hatfield and Officer Andrew Mease approached him, Gonzalez-Acosta discarded a .38-cal. handgun under a van at South Water and East Mifflin streets, Hatfield said.
The gun was not loaded, police said.
Two brief vehicle pursuits this past weekend also led to arrests, Lancaster police said.
• Jose L. Vega-Montijo, 29, of 22 S. Ann St., was charged with fleeing-eluding police, careless driving, a turn signal violation, and driving without a license late Saturday night in the 400 block of South Queen Street, Officer Eric Pannone reported.
Another man, Luis E. Milan-Olazagasti, 26, of 702 Rockland St., was charged with public drunkenness from the same incident, police asid.
• Christopher B. Bair, 21, of 619 High St., was charged with fleeing-eluding, driving under suspension, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and a noise ordinance violation following a pursuit that ended at Hazel and Beaver streets late Friday night, Officer Christopher McCormick said.
