Eight people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash late Tuesday morning at an East Earl Township intersection near Terre Hill.
Heather Soldinger, 18, of Brandon, Fla., near Tampa, was driving a 2008 Nissan sedan west on Union Grove Road. She stopped for a stop sign at Route 625, but when she entered the intersection, a 2005 Nissan sport-utility vehicle struck her car, East Earl Police Chief Kevin C. McCarthy said.
Joanne Baker, 37, of Elkins Park, Montgomery County, was driving the SUV south on Route 625. The impact sent the Baker vehicle into the front of a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Linda Hollinger, 50, of 1732 Weaverland Road, East Earl, McCarthy said.
Baker, Soldinger and three passengers in each of their vehicles were injured and taken to West Reading Hospital following the 11 a.m. crash. None of the injuries was believed serious, police said.
Terre Hill firefighters and a New Holland Ambulance crew assisted police at the scene.
Early today, a Lancaster woman was hurt when her car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer parked in the first block of West Vine Street, city police said.
Elaine Beachey, of the 700 block of South Plum Street, was listed in serious condition this morning at Lancaster General Hospital.
Beachey's eastbound Dodge Intrepid struck the back of a truck that was going to deliver newsprint at the Lancaster Newspapers Inc. production building, police said.
The truck was parked on the south side of Vine Street, near Beaver Street. The driver, Sylvaim Roy, 24, of Riviere De Loup, Quebec, was asleep in the truck when the 2:30 a.m. accident happened, police said.
The accident remains under investigation, police said.
Roy said the impact jolted the truck and woke him up. Before being taken to the hospital, the injured woman told Roy "Don't call the police," the truck driver said.
