Think of a warm, wet rag being held over Lancaster County, giving off lots of heat and moisture.
And whether or not anyone squeezes that "rag," it's not a lot of fun to stand underneath it.
That's what anyone who ventures outside here over the next few days will feel, as summer mugginess has settled over the area, big-time.
After rain washed out some fireworks earlier this past holiday weekend and made things iffy the last half of the weekend, the start of the work week is shaping up like a good time to stay inside in the air conditioning.
Unless, of course, you're heading for a swimming pool.
AccuWeather forecastAccording to forecasters at Millersville University, "warm and muggy conditions will prevail" at least through Tuesday, with a high around 90 degrees and also an uncomfortable dew point and humidity.
The overnight low Sunday into today stayed around an uncomfortable 70 degrees.
Meanwhile, the humidity has stayed close to 100 percent and the dew point well above 70 — with 70 usually considered the dividing line between comfort and discomfort.
A cooler front will swing through the area on Wednesday, leading to some scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, the MU forecast states.
We'll see a small break from the heat and humidity on Thursday, and overall, sunny skies are expected to return here Thursday and Friday.
But as we've had many times recently, along with the nicer weather Friday also could bring another chance for showers, with cooler-than-normal temperatures.
We shouldn't threaten the record high for today, 99 degrees, set in 1988, or Tuesday, 98 degrees, set back in 1921.
