Help for girls

If you're searching for answers and aren't sure where to turn, check out "What Your Mother Never Told You: A Survival Guide for Teenage Girls." Author Richard Dudum's book includes chapters titled "Don't Act and Dress Like a Ho," "Change Friends When It's Time" and "Respect Yourself."

The book, Dudum says, can help a teen girl make good choices.

"It will give her the tools to make good decisions, decisions that define and reflect who she is and who she wants to be," he says. "The book will open the door to dialogue."

Dudum's book sells for $14.95 on Amazon.com. For details, visit whatyourmothernevertoldyou.net.

Driving tips
As you hit the road this summer, consider these tips from PennDOT for safe teen driving:

• Always wear your seat belt.

• Don't talk or text on your cell phone while driving.

• Don't eat or drink while driving.

• Obey the speed limit. Going too fast gives you less time to react.

• Adjust radio and climate controls before beginning your trip, have your passenger adjust the controls for you or pull over to a safe place to adjust the controls.

• If you cannot see a truck's mirrors, the truck driver cannot see you.

• Expect the unexpected. You never know what can happen.

Celebrity news and notes
• "American Idol's" cuddly judge, Simon Cowell, has been voted the most obnoxious celebrity on TV in a poll by Parade magazine's Web site, Parade.com. Simon beat out Donald Trump, foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay and "The Hills" star Spencer Pratt.

• Excited that Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan plan to do a TV show together? Alas, reports about the show are untrue. So says Paris, who revealed on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show last week that not everything the media says is true: "I think literally writers are just so bored that they just make up stories ... it's just — it's lame."
