A Willow Street man crashed his motorcycle near Gap during a police pursuit early Saturday morning, and the cycle caught fire, Lancaster state police said.
A trooper extinguished the fire, and the cyclist was not injured. But he was arrested for suspected drunken driving, police said.
Robert Bachman III, 24, of Willow Street, was operating the 1987 Harley Davidson Sportster, police said.
Bachman committed traffic violations, and police pursued his cycle at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Ariel Torres said.
The pursuit ended when Bachman lost control at the intersection of Route 741 and Route 41 at Gap, Torres said.
The cycle slid on concrete and then caught fire. Torres extinguished the blaze, but Gap firefighters also responded.
Bachman was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, Torres said.
Also on Saturday, four people were injured in a two-car crash on Oregon Pike, south of Brownstown.
Donald Hinkle, 74, Shillington, was driving north when his vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Betty J. Martin, 81, of Ephrata, at 12:28 p.m., West Earl Township police said.
Martin was driving across Route 272 (Oregon Pike) from Stone Quarry Road to Rose Hill Road, police said.
Martin was listed in fair condition this morning at Lancaster General Hospital. Hinkle and his wife, Dorothy Hinkle, 75, and Martin's passenger, Nancy Rodman, 71, Brownstown, also were hurt in the crash. but have been released, a hospital supervisor reported.
Early today, Manheim Township police closed a section of Lititz Pike near Overlook Golf Course for about an hour after a pickup truck crashed and overturned.
One injury was reported from the 3:50 a.m. crash. Police closed the highway for about an hour from Sunset Place to Bloomingdale Avenue.
