I agree with you. My bottom line is that the article is so misleading because between all of us on here, we can't come up with one scenario where this program is accepting the children of middle-class people who work hard but can't afford day care.

I wonder if all the inquiring callers and people on the waiting list have already had their children tested and found that they are eligible for the program.

Look, look. We found some of it. You know. Some of the tax money that should have gone to maintaining the state's bridges.

Good question. I would THINK they aren't on the waiting list until they have been tested. That is a lot of kids who would fall behind. The tests are insanely easy. If a child can't pass the test, he is a child in serious trouble. If you read to your child, interract with your child, encourage speech and constructive playtime, teach your child English, your kid is not going to get into that program.

That's really sad, if there are that many kids who qualify. Maybe I am cynical, but I'm not sure how much you can do, even with "early intervention" and all that, to offset parents who just don't care and a crazy home life.

We are middle class, read to our child(ren), encourage speech and constructive playtime and English is our first (and only) language and my daughter goes to the pre-k program at our local school. She went last year and is going again this year. Could we afford pre-school without this program? Maybe, if we had too. Am I thankfull for this program...YES!
