Lancaster City police this morning charged a city man in connection with last week's shooting death of a Pittsburgh-area teenager at Green Street and Penn Avenue.

But Carlos Oyola, 19, of the 200 block of Juniata Street, may not be the only person charged in the shooting. Detectives were interviewing several other people this morning in connection with the fatal shooting.

There were at least two handguns involved and a gun found at the scene did not belong to Oyola, Sgt. Jarrad Berkiheiser said this morning.

Oyola was charged with possession of an unregistered handgun.

The investigation is ongoing, Berkiheiser said. The case will be reviewed by the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office.

Additional charges may be filed against Oyola and others, he said.

According to police, Oyola admitted to investigating officers that he was walking with two other people in the 200 block of Green Street late Wednesday morning when they were confronted by another group.

Police say Oyola told them he drew a handgun he had concealed in his waistband and fired three or four shots. Oyola then fled the scene.

Police officers responding to reports of a shooting, found 19-year-old Curtis Howard suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Howard was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The police investigation led them to Oyola, who voluntarily came to the police station Saturday to be interviewed. After admitting his role in the shooting, Oyola was charged.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kelly Ballentine. Oyola was released from Lancaster County Prison after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bond.

The police investigation remains "very active," Berkiheiser said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 735-3300. Callers do not have to give their names to provide information.
