A Lancaster city man has been charged with attempted homicide for repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend during a dispute at her home late Wednesday night.
Luis Manuel Ocasio, 37, also is accused of slashing his girlfriend's 20-year-old daughter with a kitchen knife during the altercation in an eighth-floor apartment at 33 E. Farnum St.
The daughter, Crystal Guajardo, wasn't seriously hurt, officials said, but her mother, 40-year-old Sandra Guajardo, was in serious condition Thursday at Lancaster General Hospital.
Ocasio was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault for stabbing Sandra in the chest, stomach and face, according to court documents. Those first-degree felony charges carry a maximum 40-year prison sentence upon conviction. Ocasio was charged with misdemeanor simple assault for slashing Crystal's arm.
Ocasio became angry when his girlfriend tried to leave the apartment with her daughter and granddaughter, according to a police affidavit filed in the case.
The affidavit outlined the attack and the gruesome crime scene officers encountered this way:
The women and a 3-year-old child were at the apartment when Crystal said she wanted to leave about 10:30 p.m.
Sandra then told her daughter she also wanted to leave because Ocasio had been threatening her. Ocasio had been abusive in the past, Sandra told her daughter.
As the women tried to leave with the child, Ocasio told Sandra she could go, but without her clothing. He then grabbed Sandra when she tried to leave. Puncture wounds found later by a doctor indicated Ocasio was stabbing Sandra rather than slashing her with the kitchen knife.
Crystal tried to intervene, but was slashed in the arm and foot.
Neighbors heard screaming from the struggle and called 911.
Police arrived and rushed to apartment No. 801. First-responder Officer Michael Landis saw Ocasio by the front door, still clenching the knife.
"Large puddles of blood" were visible in the apartment, according to Landis.
The officer ordered Ocasio to get rid of the knife, and he tossed it into the kitchen. Officers then arrested the Ocasio without further altercation.
Crystal was treated at Lancaster General Hospital, where she received several stitches, and released.
Her mother was in serious condition Thursday night, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
The child was not harmed.
Ocasio was arraigned Thursday morning before District Judge Kelly Ballentine. He was sent to Lancaster County Prison, where he remains, on $50,000 bail.
