A 21-year-old Lancaster man is facing charges of rape and sexual assault after an incident in January at a fraternity house near Shippensburg University, according to The Patriot-News.
Brett Mitchell Carper, a 2006 Lampeter-Strasburg High School graduate, will be formally arraigned in the Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas Aug. 19.
The rape allegedly occurred on Jan. 18, according to court documents.
The Patriot-News reported that the alleged incident occurred at the Tau Kappa Epsilon house near the university.
Carlisle state police arrested Carper May 8. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison, but was released the same day on $50,000 bail.
Carlisle state police and the district attorney's office in Cumberland County were unable to provide information about the case this morning.
Carper's lawyer, former Lancaster County Assistant District Attorney Heidi Eakin, did not return a phone call this morning for comment.
The registrar's office at Shippensburg University said Carper was a student in the spring, but is not enrolled for this fall semester.
The Shippensburg office of District Judge Harold E. Bender, where the charges were filed, was not immediately able to provide any information about the Carper case this morning.
