Teachers assigned more health care costs
For years, they paid little or nothing; now districts get concessions, but not near what those in private sector pay

That link you posted was based on wages at LGH, so it skews a bit higher, Daisy.
Per diem=no benefits, so that has to looked at differently. Great if you can live without vacation time, insurance, etc.
In any case, this was supposed to be about teachers, and has been hijacked long enough. If people want to believe nurses are overpaid, so be it.

Hope if they ever face open heart surgery they don't mention to their surgical team or ICU nurses that they think they are over-rated and over-paid ...

While I may be chiming in rather late on this topic here is my 2 cents:
Teachers do work hard are well educated and have a very trying task. That being said they, like most other employees, should bear a fair share of the cost associated with the benefits offered by their employer.
Just because someone "teaches" should not inherently qualify them for benefits that are beyond reasonable. What about those who "counsel" or EMT's who save lives etc...
Finally, resident's taxes are providing the funding for these benefits, they should exercise their rights to attend mtgs., vote and voice opinions on this and other education- related issues.
Just a thought

2008-average salaries for lancaster, pa

AVERAGE--$61,000 for RNs

AVERAGE- $41,000 for LPNs
my RN friend is making $42.00 per hour per diem rate working for HMA hospitals in your area. she is working in a specialty though.

How is she drawing per diem? Is her work in a different state or is her home in a different state?

I will just add my two cents and my wife is a teacher. She works around 60 hours per week during the school year, takes classes in the summer and constantly deals with parents for $75K per year. I don't care what the benefits are, you couldn't pay me enough to do that job. I wouldn't be a teacher if it paid $100K per year or more. Its a crappy job and frankly I can't understand why anyone gets into that profession. Just be thankful someone does.
