A car crashed into a telephone pole early today on Lampeter Road, south of Lancaster, and firefighters had to free the 18-year-old driver from the wreckage, West Lampeter Township police said.
An ambulance took Blair Stevens, of 1515 Putnam Drive, to Lancaster General Hospital following the 2:04 crash. He is in stable condition, a hospital supervisor reported this morning.
Stevens was driving a Chevrolet sedan north on Lampeter Road. He was heading home from a friend's house and told Officer Steve Heinly he apparently fell asleep.
The car crossed the two-lane road near Valette Drive, Heinly said. The front end struck a fire hydrant, and the driver's side then hit the pole.
Firefighters from Lampeter and Willow Street freed Stevens from the vehicle. The car was a total loss, and the crash closed Lampeter Road for about 45 minutes, police said.
Also early today, a Lancaster man's minivan struck four parked vehicles in the city's southeast area, police said.
Leon Robinson, 33, believed to be living in the 400 block of South Ann Street, is being cited for four hit-and-run violations and for several other traffic offenses, Officer Michael Landis reported.
Just before 2 a.m., Robinson drove a Ford Windstar on the sidewalk and into a parked car in the 300 block of South Lime Street, Landis said.
Robinson then drove onto a sidewalk at South Lime and Susquehanna Street, and his van struck a parked pickup truck. Then his vehicle struck vans parked at Susquehanna and Rockland streets and in the 300 block of Susquehanna Street, Landis said.
All the parked vehicles were unoccupied. Each had moderate damage, Landis said.
Police found Robinson in the 500 block of South Ann Street. In addition to the four hit-and-run citations, he is being charged with driving under suspension, reckless driving, driving on sidewalks, and driving in the wrong lane, police said.
Embreeville state police said a 20-year-old Coatesville man caused the Wednesday morning crash that closed Route 322 near Honey Brook for about four hours.
The young man's 1994 Plymouth struck a utility pole at Cambridge Road at about 6 a.m. The pole and wires fell across the highway, police said.
The 20-year-old, whose identity was not released by police, was treated for minor injuries at Brandywine Hospital.
On Tuesday night, a two-car crash at a Rapho Township intersection sent three people to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment.
A 1998 Plymouth driven by a 16-year-old Manheim girl and a 1981 Jeep Wrangler driven by a Clair Denlinger, 57, of Strasburg, collided at 8:40 p.m. at North Colebrook Road and Elizabethtown Road, Ephrata state police Trooper Joseph R. Hartranft reported.
Three passengers in the Denlinger vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. They were: Sharon M. Denlinger, 24, of Manheim; Barbara J. Denlinger, 55, of Strasburg; and Marc A. Denlinger, 27, of Manheim, police said.
The 16-year-old Manheim girl and her passenger, who was another 16-year-old girl from Manheim, were not injured. The 16-year-old driver is being cited for a left-turn violation, police said.
