I feel like I have found the "fountain of youth". A friend told me I had a tumor in my thyroid and since it was removed, along with 1/2 my thyroid,2 years ago,I have been exercising at LA Fitness and running. First, I could only run around the block. Then my daughters challenged me to do the Red Rose Run. I was able to do it on May 31st and came in 5 minutes after my 17 year old!
Five years ago I used to get winded going up and down the steps. My knees were a mess. When I went to San Diego, I was left behind when everyone else went down some rocks to see the tide pools because my knees wouldn't bend that much.
Since that time I've lost about 50 pounds and feel better than I did when I was 21!!!! I have also been pumping iron.
Last week I came in last in the 6.2 mile "Twilight Trot" at the Masonic Village, It took me 1 hour and 22 minutes but I had lots of applause when I finally crossed the finish line! I was surprised when I received 3rd place for in the women's 50-54 age group. All the results are listed at
www.getintogears.org I would never believe that life gets better after 50- but it is true IF you are in good health, exercise, and are within the proper weight for your height. That is the true fountain of youth.
Whether I finish or not next week, training for it has been alot of fun. I will also get to see where 2 of my children live and work in LA.
Thanks for all your support!!!
