Take a walk downtown
Looking for a fun, educational family activity?

Put on your walking shoes for the Heritage Center of Lancaster County's new tours of downtown Lancaster.

Four different walking tours trace the footsteps of fictional families who "lived" in Lancaster from 1750 to 1970.

Each hour-long tour stops at seven to 10 sites, where the "Lassers" or "Fulginitis" may have lived, worked, socialized and gone to school.

"It's not your average walking tour," Heritage Center vice president Kimberly A. Fortney says.

"It doesn't go to places where a parking lot used to be a fabulous building."

Tour booklets, including stories, maps and interactive activities, are available for $1 at the Heritage Center Museum Store, 5 W. King St.; the Quilt & Textile Museum Store, 39 N. Market St.; and Isaac's Deli, 25 N. Queen St., all in Lancaster. — Mary Beth Schweigert

Six members of the Sunshine Squad, a team participating in the 2009 National Multiple Sclerosis Society walk in Lancaster, will hold a fundraiser, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Team members will accept donations in front of Maggie Moo's Ice Cream, 2088 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster. One team member will be dressed as Maggie the Cow.

Shannon Zimmerman, diagnosed with MS when she was 29, formed the squad, identified by her nickname, "Sunshine."

Now in its fourth year, the team has members ranging in age from 5 to 55. Last year, they raised more than $2,000.

This year, the team hopes to raise $5,000 through nine fundraisers between August and April.
