biden's son is heading off to iraq this fall.

if old man mccain picks another elitist like mitt romney for vp, romney is going to have a lot of splainin' to do as to why his 4 sons are not in the military if the war in iraq is so important.

Why aren't they there now? Daddy isn't campaigning to be president; surely they should now be available.
Hey, if Joe's kid can go...

Weren't Catholic bishops threatening Democrat Party politicians with ex communication if they voted yes on pro choice issues? Didn't they threaten Kerry.

Yes, they did. It will be interesting to see how they deal with Joe Biden.

I never understood why Catholics were Democrat. Sure, Democrats are big on social issues yet the Catholic Church prohibits abortion, homosexuality, taxes, etc.

I am an Irish Catholic.................

What does religion have to do with political affiliation? Seems like a strange statment? Do you agree 100% with every edict of the Catholic church? Do you agree 100% with every talking point of the Republican party. Particularly what the Republican party has become today? Bigger government, corporate wellfare, infidelity, wars of agression/occupation, pandering to oil companies, cronyism, ineptitude, deficit spending, etc.?
In regards to your points above, its actually pretty simple for a Catholic. Don't have an abortion and don't be a homosexual. For most catholics, those things are pretty easy to do. I'm not sure what political affiliation would have to do with one's own actions. How about electing the candidate that you think will be able to best run the country, whether its a rebuplican, democrat, or other party.
Most Catholics are catholic because that is what their parents chose for them at a young age. Most of the kids I went to catholic school with still consider themselves catholic, and still go to church. But, they are pretty much going through the motions engrained in them as a child.

Isn't that pretty much extortion? Perhaps we could pursue some RICO violations agains the church if they were to make such threats. At the very least, interfering directly in the actions of government figures by threat should cause them to lose their tax exemptions.

"'I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."
That was Biden's comment 1 year ago about Obama.

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), also a senior member of the Appropriations panel, told the Boston Globe recently. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
