Horn, June and the rest, please slow down and regroup. First of all, the police did not arrest this girl on a whim. I can tell you from experience that, C7Y, Juvenile Probation, and the DA's office were all involved in this investigation. When she was placed in Juvenile detention, she had to have a detention hearing within either 24 or 48 hrs of her detention. The detention hearing is to see whether she should be held inthe juvenile facility, sent back to her parents or sent to a foster home till the adjudication hearing. None of the facts of the case were put in the paper, cause it involves a juvenile, so none of us knows what happened. The parents of the victims and the accused are involved in each step. None of us knows what happens or this young girls history, so lets back off and let the system work. I know most of you don't care for the system but until one of you that doesn't like it comes up with a better system, let things take there course. (Run on sentence, oh well.)

Tried to look this up on the internet about children commiting sex crimes and all I found was one reference to a camp for these kids in Ca. It was dated Nov. 2005. Apparently, it happens often enough that Ca. needed a camp for rehabilitation. I'm wondering though what is considered a "sex crime" out there. I'm not trying to be critical here. There was a mexican family down the street from us and they would regularly show thier boy babies' penis and proudly boast how big it was. I even heard the Grandma ask one of the boys how big his penis was getting. To us, this was offensive, but it was accepted by them. A cultural thing I guess.

Because of the rarity of situations like this ending up with a child this young being detained rather than sent to foster care, I tend to think that there's a lot more involved than we know. For this reason, I personally believe GP's points merit serious consideration.
