A 1-year-old boy apparently drowned Tuesday morning in a water trough at his Bart Township home.

The boy was identified by a neighbor as Elam Beiler, the son of Jesse and Barbara Beiler, 1045 Vintage Road.

His body was discovered by his mother.

"He was only out of sight for a short period of time," said Lancaster County Coroner Steve Diamantoni.

The cause of death, Diamantoni said, is "presumptive drowning."

"In a case like this, where there are no witnesses, we go with the presumptive cause until an autopsy is performed," Diamantoni said.

The procedure is set for this morning.

The boy would have turned 2 in October, according to the neighbor.

Christiana EMS, Susquehanna EMS and the Bart Township Fire Company were called to the scene of the apparent drowning.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Beiler family. God bless!

Poor little guy. All it takes is a few inches of water and a few unsupervised moments for a toddler to drown.
