State Police at Lancaster reported that Edward Paul Radesky Jr., 22, was killed when he lost control of his sport utility vehicle while traveling west in the 100 block of Truce Road at 3:05 a.m. police said.

The driver's side of his vehicle struck the side of a tree. Radesky suffered severe head injuries, police said.

Radesky was wearing a seat belt, but no airbag was deployed, police said.

Refton Fire Company responded. Firefighters from Quarryville and Providence Township EMS assisted.

CRASHES:
State Police at Lancaster reported that a car driven by Carrie I. Rice, 32, Airville, was heading east on Furniss Road, Drumore Township, at 5 p.m. Friday when she applied brakes while negotiating a curve and lost traction. Her vehicle went into the path of a vehicle driven by Marcus R. Lefever, 30, Quarryville. The Rice vehicle struck the front of the Lefever vehicle.

The crash happened just east of Tanning Yard Hollow Road. Rice was charged with driving too fast for conditions, police said.

•Driving west in the 600 West Swartzville Road, Brian Kolin, 26, of the 200 block of Village Lane, Reinholds, lost control of his vehicle on a curve, struck a concrete culvert, a tree, and the porch of a residence Saturday at 3:57 a.m., East Cocalico Township police said. Kolin was treated at Reading Hospital for head injuries.

•Traveling west on Route 322, John Fitzner, 51, Blue Ball, was blinded by an oncoming car's high beams and struck a pole just east of Elwood Street in Caernarvon Township Friday at 10:23 p.m., State Police at Ephrata said.

•Lisa Ann Hatch, 44, Denver, was waiting to turn left into a driveway at 1594 Dry Tavern Road in Brecknock Township, with a car driven by Brenda G. Greenleaf, 56, Honey Brook, stopped behind her. Another vehicle, driven by Bethanne Louise Good, 21, of Denver, rear-ended Greenleaf, pushing her car into the rear of Hatch's vehicle at 2:24 p.m., Thursday, State Police at Ephrata reported. Greenleaf was taken to Ephrata Hospital by Fivepointville Ambulance.

•State Police at Lancaster reported that a vehicle driven by Ernest C. Beiler, 29, Paradise, was traveling too fast for weather conditions on Route 30 in Salisbury Township when he struck the rear of a car-carrying tractor-trailer driven by Nicholas R. Carney, 30, Brookhaven.

The crash happened at 2 p.m. Friday, police said. Three vehicles on the tractor-trailer were damaged, police said. Beiler was charged with a speed violation, police said.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF:
A vehicle belonging to a student at Thaddeus Stevens College was damaged sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6:45 p.m. Thursday, State Police at Lancaster said. The vehicle was parked in the Naval Reserve parking lot at the college. Anyone with information may contact police at 721-7667.

DRUGS:
Carlos M. Vaddy-Zayas, 42, York, was arrested on drug charges early Saturday morning, city police reported.

Police said Vaddy-Zayas was seen making a transaction at 1:45 a.m. in the 100 block of South Prince street. He was stopped by police. Vaddy-Zayas was then seen dropping seven bags of heroin. He was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, police said.

•Norman L. Alexander, 38, of the 300 block of Beaver Street, was arrested by city police at 9:44 p.m. Friday after members of the Drug Task Force executed a search warrant.

A quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana was found, police said. Alexander was charged with a violation of the Controlled Substances Act/possession with intent to deliver, police reported.

DUI:
Jason Schaeffer, 27, Lancaster, was arrested for driving under the influence after he was observed driving erratically in the 200 block of Basswood Drive, East Lampeter Township, at 2:57 a.m. Saturday, State Police at Lancaster said.

•State Police at Lancaster arrested Andrew Scott Wilson, 22, Mount Joy, after observing him driving without his vehicle's headlights on at West Main and Plum Streets, Mount Joy, at 2:06 a.m Saturday.

•William Douglas Lee Jr., 28, Coatesville, was stopped by State Police at Lancaster on Williams Run Road, Sadsbury Township, at 5:53 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested for driving under the influence and traffic violations, police said.

•Sean K. Smith, New Providence, was arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage following investigation of a crash at Route 222 and Bunker Hill Road, Strasburg Township at 10:40 a.m. Friday, State Police at Lancaster reported. The crash involved a second vehicle driven by Jessica A. Fullam, New Providence, police said.

•Michael Sheaffer, 46, of the first block of Soudersburg Road, Ronks, was charged with driving under the influence Saturday, East Lampeter Township police said.

An employee at Taco Bell, 2040 Lincoln Highway East, reported Sheaffer after he repeatedly fell asleep while waiting at the drive-thru for his food at 1 a.m., police said. A subsequent blood alcohol test registered .20, according to police.

FRAUD:
Frank V. Helman, 35, was charged Friday with access device fraud as the result of an investigation, New Holland police said.

Police said Helman charged $3,550.93 on a family member's credit card between Aug.1 and Sept. 10, 2007. The discrepancies were discovered by the family member who contacted police. Helman is in prison in Greensburg for unrelated charges, police said.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS:
Brian Skaggs, 25, West Main Street, Mountville, was arrested for public drunkenness when he was found sleeping on the front step of a Turkey Hill store in Mountville at 6:21 a.m. Saturday, Manor Township police said.

•City police reported that Joseph Eshleman, 37, of the 200 block of South Prince Street, was cited for public drunkenness at 2:47 a.m. Saturday after he fell down on a sidewalk in the 100 block of West Orange Street.

•Alexander Sanchez-Medina, 37, reported as homeless, was arrested for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and littering at 12:56 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Church Street.

City police said Sanchez-Medina was yelling obscenities in the roadway and had a strong odor of alcohol. He also threw his shirt into the street, police said.

•James F. Eck, 46, of the 1600 block of Wabank Road, was arrested for public drunkenness at 10:33 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Columbia Avenue after he was seen running through traffic, city police reported.

RETAIL THEFT:
Michelle L. Bailey, 35, of the 2900 block of North Reading Road, was charged with retail theft Friday, East Cocalico Township police said.

A clerk and witness at Turkey Hill, 2501 N. Reading Road, saw Bailey leave without paying for $132 worth of merchandise she had put into her purse at 11:20 p.m., police said. Bailey was later found at a motel, charged and released, police said.

SIMPLE ASSAULT:
Anthony L. Battaglia, 49, of the 700 block of Marietta Avenue, was arrested by city police for simple assault following a 1:38 a.m. Saturday incident.

THEFT/LOITERING:
Ephrata police received a call describing two male juveniles entering vehicles parked along the 100 and 200 blocks of Heatherwood Drive.

After a brief foot chase by police, one juvenile was apprehended. The second juvenile was apprehended a short time later. Both were released to their mothers, police said. The incident happened at 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

UNDERAGE DRINKING:
West Lampeter Police were called to Martin Meylin Middle School at 4:27 a.m. Saturday when a janitor arriving for work reported a suspicious male on the front steps, police said.

Police arrived to find a 15-year-old male, who was arrested for underage drinking and released to his parents early Saturday morning, police said.

VEHICLE FIRE:
An unknown mechanical problem caused a fire in the engine compartment of a truck driven by Donald L. Hess, 44, Holtwood, as he was traveling north on Route 272 in Providence Township at 10:30 a.m. Friday, State Police at Lancaster said.

WARRANTS:
Maurice S. Fokas, 22, of the 300 block of Pearl Street was arrested at 12:54 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South Prince Street on a summary warrant, city police reported.

•William P. Slaymaker, of the 200 block of West Lemon Street, was arrested on an outstanding warrant in the 400 block of Chambers Street at 12:13 a.m. Saturday, city police said.

•Manheim Township police stopped Tamisha L. King, of the 400 block of Judie Lane, in the 1900 block of Fruitville Pike at 10:38 p.m. Friday. She had several warrants through city police, that department reported.
