Our own immune system is God's gift! But viruses are the nastiest critters on the planet, the reason why there has never been a cure for the common cold, much less the flu.

Any researcher would tell you it is difficult to determine cause and effect. You mentally link the fact that you got a flu shot and actually caught flu for the first time in years. But since the flu shot was not effective against the actual strain that developed last year, the flu shot was really a neutral event -- it didn't help, it didn't cause. It was obviously a strain you had never been exposed to before so your own immune system was simply unprepared to deal with it and your exposure outpaced your resistance.

Which makes sense, but let's just say if I catch it this year I won't have to wonder because there won't be a shot

Regardless of one's spiritual outlook, maybe there is an important biological reason for this...

You think the flu shot gave you the flu ?

I'm certain the flu shot did not protect me from the flu. It's been the better part of ten years, I don't know when they stuck me and when i was sick, it was not an immediate thing. May have been two weeks, may have been two months. Either way, never again. This was encouraged by the school district I was working for, everyone in my building lined up, paid, got stuck by the head nurse -- she worked in my building 1/2 day. If I had to take a guess shot in November, sick in January?
Of the illnesses I've had that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, in order:
Appendicitis.
Flu.
Strep throat.

Anything else I was partially functional. I could at least watch TV or play video games or read or something. Those three were without a doubt the most miserable experiences I've had.

For me it was a blown disc in the low back -- 5'3" ladies shouldn't move 40 cinder blocks while building a house!!! -- wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy ...

What i find interesting is that the CDC is pushing the flu vaccine to really young kids. Last year I spent a few mintues reading the insert the came with the flu shot (I forgot which manufacturer it was) that was being given free at my place of work(a government office...go figure) along with FREE COOKIES!!!!...i mean how do you resist that?

What I found is the manufacturer stated the shots were the least effective in the really young and old. That's odd since the shots have always appeared(to me at least) to be marketed toward older adults. Now children are the target. Why is this?....and playing a tragic situation like this just to promote the flu vaccine to a portion of the population that has not been shown to be of any benefit stinks worse than my !profanity!.
