Oh, pu-leez! That is not a high crime area. No area in Lititz is "high crime". (Although I will admit we have had some pretty horrendous crimes.) You don't even live here.

Take a look at what this person seems to think is a high crime area:

http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid=navcl...sa=N&tab=wl

HIGH is not equal to HIGHER

"HIGHER" with an emphasis on the "ER". Reading comprehension. Try it. It is a fact. I can name plenty of other places in Lititz that have "highER" crime.

The fact that I don't live there has nothing to do with anything. I have lived 2 miles away for the past 2 years and I drive through it everyday. I read the Record Express every week. I love Lititz and I would have no problem raising a family there. I just pointed out that EVERY town has crime and that South Cedar is not the NICEST place in town. I didn't say it was a bad place. In fact, I have a couple friends that live on the 600 block of South Cedar.

BTW, your Google map link proves that I was right about the 600 block being townhouses. Lower income families typically live in those types of townhouses. Statistically, low income housing brings crime.

I am making this entry as a warning about what I just experienced this week in Manheim, not that it's related to this article but wanted to share.

I had two males, guessing their ages at around 20 knock on my door, asking to use a phone to call for a ride home to Lebanon City. I told them I'd be back with my wireless phone outside my front door. As I handed the phone to one of them, I asked him to stay close so he wouldn't lose connection, which he he either ignored or didn't hear me. I asked the other the circumstances...did someone not provide transportation after committing, did they miss a bus, etc? The other just looked at me without saying much at all. It was at this time I really didn't trust them. As one came back with my phone saying he didn't get a hold of anyone, the other 'tried' to get someone without dialing the full 7 numbers (which I was paying attention to). They both asked me to give them a ride to Lebanon city, which didn't happen.

I just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else experienced this in Manheim or it's proximity in the recent past. Criminal...no, suspicious...possibly.

Had something like this happen to a neighbor a month ago on Penn St.

I would argue that any municipality has a "high crime" area. Its not saying that its like southcentral LA, but I'm sure if you would ask any police officer if there are any areas of his/her jurisdiction that require more police response (outside of minor service calls) t hey could name a few without having to think that hard....that would classify it as high crime for that particular jurisdiction. Don't assume that just because its a small quaint town that it doesn't have its own set of problems.

I'm sure if you ask an officer in East Hempfield, they'd tell you the "Ghetto Green" apartments are their high crime area. I would also imagine that a Manheim Twp officer might say that the area south of Rt 30 as you get closer to the city could be considered high crime. Much the same as a city police officer might say S. Ann St.

I go to college in Reading and my car was just broken into right out in front of our dorm parking lot. It is incredible how bold these thieves are, as it was only 8:30pm when the incident took place. It was caught on camera but our public safety officials had told me that the visuals from the camera were inadequate even though they've got a clear picture of the back of the car. Just last weekend my best friend's car was stolen. Apparently there are students selling master car keys for nissans, hondas and acuras at the high school. This city is nuts, I can't wait to come back to Lancaster now.
Jwho?

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like they're about to try something.
