An Akron man was injured in a Monday morning two-vehicle crash on Route 322 in Clay Township.

Arnold Walker, 68, of Main Street,  Akron, pulled from a private drive onto the highway, and his 1998 Dodge Caravan collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Nathan Yunginger, 25, of the 100 block of Reagan Drive, Ephrata, Clay Township police said.

The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the  1700 block of West Main Street (Route 322), which is just  west of Ephrata.

Both vehicles had extensive damage. Walker was listed in fair condition today at Lancaster General Hospital.  He will be  cited for a failure-to-yield violation, police said.

The crash  closed Route 322 for about 45 minutes between Weidmanville Road and Sharp Avenue.   Lincoln, Durlach-Mount Airy, and Brickerville firefighters and fire-police responded.

Bad weather was an apparent factor  in two other recent crashes.

Dakota Strawser, 18, of New Providence, was driving  south on Vintage Road, south of Route 30, Tuesday night when his Ford F-150 truck struck a tree that had fallen across the roadway, Lancaster state police  said.

Strawser and his two passengers, William Groff, 18, Christiana, and a 17-year-old Kirkwood boy were wearing  seat belts and were not injured, Trooper  Jason Laudermilch said.

The accident happened at about  8:50 p.m. in the area of 256 S. Vintage Road, which is in Paradise Township.

with Lancaster county's booming senior population accidents like these are happening more and more. Some with serious results. I certainly don't want to take someone's independence away, but this needs to be addressed. Either a re-test or re-certificatin like the CD licenses require, or a restriction to certain hours when traffic is not as heavy, perhaps even giving someone a choice between the two.

Something may have been obstructing his view? Perhaps the other car was speeding? Perhaps he misjudged how much time he had. I have seen cars accelerate if they see that you might attempt to pull out and also cars can fly around a corner and before you know it they are right there! Just giving him the benefit of the doubt until I learn more. I hope he is OK.
