What grade is he in? It really is a lot of work; if you want him to have a part-time job when he's 16 it's pretty difficult to do the diploma route.
My oldest daughter graduated in IB, but she didn't try for the diploma. She took IB German, English, and History, and got college credit for all 3. Even the AP courses she took at McCaskey were as if not more advanced than her freshman classes at LaSalle.
Younger daughter was at McCaskey for grades 9 and 10. We moved last summer to SOlanco, and they're doing work in her grade 11 AP class that she did in grade 9. SHe was in the gifted program, which was excellent in middle school(Hand) but really a joke at McCaskey. She went on some field trips to college campuses, that's about it.
He is only in 7th grade, so this is just info collecting, really. If he does do this, IB will be his main priority, as far as his Dad and I are concerned, not a pt job. It's up to him really, but if we plant the seed early, maybe it will come to IB fruition!! LOL LOL His teachers in Honors are telling us he always finishes his work early. He does best when he is busy, not waiting around for the next lesson. We were told in elementary that the gifted program wasn't worth his time. PFL is a great outlet, he's spent 10 weeks over the past 2 summers at Leb. Valley and Millersville, taking computers, Latin, Biochem, biology, etc. Unfortunately, funding has been cut, so after PFL, we're not sure what to have him do. We just want him to do the best he can, and if IB gives him an edge, we'd love to see him have that to his advantage.
Thanks for the info!!
