Thanks for the info. We are not pushing him, just letting him know ahead of time that this is an option for him. He's already in Honors, and they are wondering what to do with him, as he finishes everything early. He also is a part of PFL, an excellent program. We inquired about the gifted program and were told it really isn't up to par. He really does well when he is challenged, and Dan and I are of the opinion he really can handle this, IF he keeps on the right track. We have some time yet, but Dan and I really thing he's IB material. Of course, this is all up to him. He is the one that will have to do the work!!!! Thanks again!

What grade is he in? It really is a lot of work; if you want him to have a part-time job when he's 16 it's pretty difficult to do the diploma route.
My oldest daughter graduated in IB, but she didn't try for the diploma. She took IB German, English, and History, and got college credit for all 3. Even the AP courses she took at McCaskey were as if not more advanced than her freshman classes at LaSalle.
Younger daughter was at McCaskey for grades 9 and 10. We moved last summer to SOlanco, and they're doing work in her grade 11 AP class that she did in grade 9. SHe was in the gifted program, which was excellent in middle school(Hand) but really a joke at McCaskey. She went on some field trips to college campuses, that's about it.

He is only in 7th grade, so this is just info collecting, really. If he does do this, IB will be his main priority, as far as his Dad and I are concerned, not a pt job. It's up to him really, but if we plant the seed early, maybe it will come to IB fruition!! LOL LOL His teachers in Honors are telling us he always finishes his work early. He does best when he is busy, not waiting around for the next lesson. We were told in elementary that the gifted program wasn't worth his time. PFL is a great outlet, he's spent 10 weeks over the past 2 summers at Leb. Valley and Millersville, taking computers, Latin, Biochem, biology, etc. Unfortunately, funding has been cut, so after PFL, we're not sure what to have him do. We just want him to do the best he can, and if IB gives him an edge, we'd love to see him have that to his advantage.
Thanks for the info!!

How many times do I have to tell this story... when asked where I got my name here, I revealed that harv1 was my little finch in the cage next to my computer when I first signed on to LOL back in 2001.

Harv1 the poster is a concept. An attempt to break the bonds of gender specific confines that pigeonhole people into boxes they were never intended to live in.

Yeah, who am I kidding. I'm sixty. I forget sometimes...

You may be forgetful but you are fuuuuuny!
