Why?

I don't remember exactly why the feds blocked it. Some technicality. However most people that live along the rt. 80 corridor are fighting it because they don't want to have to pay the tolls. I am sure trucking companies are fighting also because of the excessive tolls. Higher tolls to truckers are eventually passed along to the consumer.

I know that I remember someone posting just recently that we should expect to have rate hikes if we wanted to complain about salting and upkeep of the turnpike roads. It's still worth it, IMOO!

I don't have a problem with raising tolls on the turnpike as long as the funds go back to the trunpike for upkeep. I do have a problem with the funds being diverted to other projects. If you are funding infrasructure improvements such as bridges then raise the gas tax and spread the costs across all drivers evenly.

Does anyone know if these infrastucture improvements include pet projects like the Lancaster trolley or does that come from another fund?

Theoretically the turnpike is a seperate entity. All the tolls are suppose to go only to the turnpike. Any and all expansions of the Tpk. and all expenses for maintaining the TPK are paid for by the tolls. Of course the TPK Commision is loaded with nepatism and and run by the good old boys. A deal fell through several months ago for a multi billion buy out from a private organization from I believe Europe or Australia. The state was looking to make money off that deal to pay for infrastructure maintenance. Several other states have done it already.

That's huge," O'Hara said. "That going to be a killer for the small business guy struggling through a recession."
