You are such an expert...you've done traffic studies...you've been to dozens and dozens of accidents, right? Oh, no you haven't, that's what I thought.
Until you've worked in law enforcement and had to determine the cause of accidents, STFU. You know nothing. Speed is the #1 cause of accidents...research retard. Now i suggest you go try to be an expert on something else...like pop up books.
Be aware that
number one cause of car accidents is driver's behavior (aggressive or ignorant) - not mechanical failure or road conditions
Car accident statistics indicate 98 percent of reported accidents involve a single distracted driver. Rubbernecking was the highest percentage of single distractions, followed by driver fatigue, looking at scenery or landmarks, passenger or child distractions, adjusting the radio or other music form, and cell phone use.
Willful or malicious acts on behalf of one party are one of the major causes of auto accidents. The federal government estimates that since 1999, 13,000 people were killed or injured as a result of aggressive driving on behalf of another driver. Reckless and careless driving are significant causes of auto accidents. Driving inexperience or inattention on the road are also major causes of auto accidents.
One of the major causes of auto accidents is drunk driving, or operating any motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. More than forty percent of all fatalities in auto accidents involve alcohol. In 2002, more than 17,000 people were killed in alcohol related accidents. When drugs or alcohol are the causes of auto accidents, the party who is found under the influence is responsible for any property damage, personal injury, or death that is caused in the accident.
HERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT ARTICLES AND NOT ONE OF THEM MENTIONS SPEED. OF THE 10 OR 11 ARTICLES THAT I READ NONE OF THEM MENTIONED THE WORD SPEED AS A FACTOR. Why do you always have to be so freaking mean to people? Admit that you are wrong and move on to the next conversation!!!

'"Speed is the number one cause of crashes" of all kinds, said Ross Deck, who coordinates DUI sobriety checkpoints for the county.'
That is a complete and utter lie. Speed is a primary cause of less than 10% of accidents. Failure to pay attention to the road is the number one cause of crashes, with reckless driving not far behind.
And the best way to stop DUI is to attack the problem- alcoholics who cannot stop drinking- and not the symptom- driving drunk. Most fatalities by DUI are caused by people who have multiple DUIs and obvious have a drinking problem. Those people do not respond to fines and jail. They need counseling instead. There is a reason DUIs have not decreased in number for the past 15 years despite more unconstitutional and draconian laws and police actions.
Stop treating drunk driving like a crime, and start treating it like a disease- if you really want to stop DUIs and deaths.
While I don't agree with some of what you have said, I will agree that you are correct about your statement regarding speed as a factor! They are right. Alcoholism is a disease. The minute you get behind the wheel you are commiting a crime. You want to drink your life away-take a taxi home so everyone else will shut up and not bother you. You know what I mean?
