I really am sorry that you are having difficulty selling your house. I mean that, it must be very discouraging. And you are right, homeowners here already pay high taxes. Unfortunately, we don't have the buisiness base that other districts do. Buisinesses pay taxes with out adding children, they are a great asset to districts like Hempfield. Despite the taxes we pay our schools still don't get the amount of money that other districts do because of the lack of buisiness here.

You are also right that the board squandered money. Over $700,000 to be exact, was "misplaced" by a FORMER school board. The former school boards also neglected to make the repairs and do updates that we are all now paying for. The trailors that we have were bought "used" to save money, for one example. Also, some repairs at Maytown are not cost effective because of the asbestos. Taxes went unraised here for a long time and we are seeing the results of that now.

The point is you are right about the incompetence of the past. So let's work together to change it. There is a board meeting on MARCH 24th at 7:00. they will be doing focus groups to work out a new plan that can help us all. We all need to be a part of this so we can actually vote yes next time. Bring your ideas and invite others on both sides of this issue. You know all too well that the state of our schools is affecting not only students, but homeowners as well.

You are right, it does affect everyone. I will attend the meeting on March 24th. Maybe if we work together we can come up with a good plan that will work for everyone. We do owe it to our children and to the homeowners in the area to find something feasible that can get voted through. We all need to work together to get a vote of "yes".

Blue I agree something needs to be done. I just am a little more skeptical, I hope people will recognize the problem and do the right thing

I can understand your skepticism but let's all get involved and see where it takes us. I certainly don't want the children of this district to continue to have to go to schools under these conditions. It's just up setting when you think about how the money was squandered and mismanaged but I guess that is water under the bridge and we have to move forward. I am all for finding a solution we can all live with.

will that solution be right one?? or just doing something to something was done?? I will not support something that is a waste of taxpayer money. I heard they are already clearing space for the next batch of used trailers to educate the kids

I understand your skeptism too mtjoyman, but in the begining of this thread babyblue seemed very angy about all of this. I think people are angry because they don't trust the school board- prior school boards caused this mistrust. People have a right to feel that way. What we need to do is show them that this school board wants to be responsible. I think they do, dispite some of their mistakes with this last referendum.

There will will be a fine line between doing what is educationally responsible and what is fiscally responsible, but we NEED to work together to walk that line. I don't want to see us waste 20 million on trailors either- The new Maytown would have cost 14 million. I have hopes that we can come together to do what is best for taxpayers and the kids (future tax payers). I'm with you babyblue, let's see where thhis takes us!
