My bill went from $105 in December to $250 in January. Single story brick (less than 1,000 square feet), single occupant, electric heat set to 50 degrees throughout the house. No dryer (clothes are hung out to dry), no stove (I use a toaster oven to save money), all lightbulbs are compact fluorescents, upgraded doors and windows several years ago and have extra insulation in the attic.
Can you image what the bill would have been if the house was set to be 60 degrees? Probably $500-600. I'm considering removing cable tv to balance my budget for the higher cost of electricity.
I'm nervouse what my bill will be!
