I think it sounds like the reporters are reporting before they get their facts straight. As usual.
Please why you would conclude that?
The quotes have so much disparity that it couldn't possibly be that divergent.
It is Stedman who has changed his tune about the whole thing!
Suppose - GOD FORBID - that something would happen to someone the District Attorney was speaking out against (who was merely exercising his 1st amendment rights)?
Would that person get a pass on any prosecution? Would they get LESS of a criminal charge because the District Attorney gave tacit approval by his public condemnation?
I had my disagreements with former District Attorney Don Totaro but I will say this about him: Totaro would bite his tongue off before publicly speaking about ANY topic.
District Attorney Craig Stedman needs to understand and appreciate the gravity of the position he have been given (he had ZERO competition for the position from the republicans OR the democrats) Public comments about ANYTHING should ALWAYS be measured for what is BEST for the public. Not what is best politically.
I have been very proud of the District Attorney's comments defending the constitution in the past. I hope that this experience makes him taken council before speaking out again on such matters. It's vital that the public has the great confidence in him and the office for the sake of our justice system.

Edited to add: For the record, while not approving of Ayers in the least, I think that ignoring the guy would have been the best way to handle it. I found it fascinating that our school systems which FLIP OUT over the slightest HINT of violence (a mere drawing of a gun has resulted in some kids being suspended) would hire someone whose life experience includes violence. Political correctness?
