Like the chicken or the egg, which came first, the kids or the dogs?!

My parents had 11 kids, raised all on their own with one income; whatever jobs my dad could get, he never bought and sold dogs like livestock. And whatever jobs the kids had to do as chores didn't include abusing animals. Real good lessons they're teaching their kids, BTW.

The number of kids is just an excuse to not want to comply with "English" laws. I'm glad neighbors are starting to speak out. Maybe they'll have to start downsizing - the size of some of these houses and additions they build, and the size of their families.

good points. Im sorry if I may have offended you w/my 'gun to the head' comment. You are proof that not all 'big' families justify abuse to animals to care for themselves.

They are bred to be bought and sold. What don`t you get about that?

Thats why the laws need to be changed. If dogs can just get off the 'livestock' list there would be hope that they wouldn't be treated as such. Animals deemed 'livestock' don't deserve to live w/such cruelty either and should be offered the best lives possible while on this earth.

Theres just too many azzhats in the 'animal business'.

Keep it up Hammer and next week I'll start a Gay thread. Think were due.

Spay one group that has been quiet is the Dog Advisory Board. They have some good people on it, think I remember someone from the Lancaster Humane League being appointed as well as some ringers protecting the puppy mills. Strange that we haven't heard much from them. Know who to ask but afraid of the answer.

"Canines are NOT livestock"-SaveTheDogs

Why do you think that? Dogs are bred and sold just like cows and steers.I don`t agree with these giant puppy mills we read about but make no mistake, they are live stock. They`re dogs, they chase their tails and eat their own poop and poop of other species. They are not human, they are animals.

And please, don`t be fool enough to walk onto some ones property to check on "their" dog.If it`s that bad from the road, call someone.Don`t stick your nose in.

DEAR MR. HAMMER
DOGS ARE NOT LIVESTOCK
THEY ARE MANS BEST FRIEND IN THIS COUNTRY
MAYBE IN OTHER COUNTRIES THEY ARE LOOKED UPON DIFFERENTLY
BUT IN THE U.S.A. DOGS ARE NOT LIVESTOCK
THEY ARE MANS BEST FRIEND

Having nine kids sounds like he's a breeder also. I know not nice Let's hope they make the right decision on this kennel and shut it down. Good news yesterday-they introduced HB 1254. Anti tethering bill. Would end chaining a dog 24 hours a day to a box. Why anyone would buy a pet then chain it out back for the rest of it's life. Would either have to take the dog in for part of the day or night or build a kennel for it.

Yea, the neighbor Beiler makes it sound like Esch didn't choose to have nine children and didn't choose to operate a puppy mill. Plenty of other folk either run legitimate businesses or work legitimate jobs to raise a family.

Mr. Esch can, too.

Folks like Mr. Esch will fool around until Lancaster County gets such a bad reputation for puppy mills that legitimate pet-breeding businesses will suffer. Something like that could also affect our touism-related businesses.

I wonder, too, why the state considers pet breeding "agricultural." Yea, they're animals raised for resale but isn't the business in a category of it's own? These animals aren't sold as a food source (neither directly nor indirectly--no Chinese-restaurant jokes please ). You could consider horses "pets" but isn't breeding an animal specifically for a pet-related purpose something different?

For me, the bottom line is money:
Money walks, money talks, and money winks at folks like Mr. Esch.
