It makes me sick in the stomach. It's so sad. That 5 to 10 minutes the hospital takes to explain how to feed, bathe and such after you give birth isn't enough anymore. People need more education about babies. There are so many stories just like this one. You can't become so angry. I have four kids. I have to take timeouts sometimes because raising children is a really tough job. Babies rely on us for everything. They cry, we respond. We learn different cries and somtimes they cry for no reason at all. According to the article it was not premeditated murder. In my mind, a quick decision to shut the baby up that took the baby's life. Could have been prevented.

Had a grandson born in Dec. one of the things the hospital addressed was Shaking baby...it was discussed more then any other that the staff introduced to the first time parents..is this something that just recently started???

When we had our children, they showed us a video about shaken baby syndrome; I think it was a state requirement before you could take the baby home. I remember we had to sign a form. I also remember being very upset by the video. My kids are in early elementary now, so that gives you some perspective on at least how long this has been going on in the hospitals with new parents.

They did the shaken baby video when I had my little guy almost two years ago, but we didn't have it when my teenagers were born. IIRC, they wanted both parents to view the video and sign the paper.

At least this guy pleaded guilty instead of trying to weasel with a half-baked story in a trial.

My son is 16 and I never saw the shaken baby video.

Yes, babies do require everything from us and at times it can be overwhelming. Sometimes you just have to let that baby cry for a minute or two until you are in the right state of mind to care for it.
