I wonder if they'll find the guy who was encased in one of the concrete piers?

How exciting! The bridge has always been the most beautiful attraction we have, and I've missed the original lights. This sounds wonderful!

I've never been to Columbia myself, but it sounds like a really neat project. Hope it works out for the city.

This is great! I've always loved this bridge. Even though I was fairly young when it was defaced by the modernization of the 1970's . I can still remember how sad it was to see the "Lanterns" go .
As the years progressed and I was able to appreciate good art and architecture I referred to this modernization as a "crime against humanity". Then again the entire architecture of the 1950's through today is a major crime. The name Richard Neutra comes to mind when I think of these crimes.
Anyway, I've looked forward to this project for a long time .

Nice post, couldn't agree more with your observations and conclusion. Two of the original lanterns are being used at the end of a driveway along Letort Rd., near Creswell.
