See "Honda Clarity".
OK, the original engine was a two-cycle two cylinder, right? Probably one of the weakest powerplants ever considered for a car. So I imagine the gearing minimizes that, by trimming off top speed. That motor put out about 40 HP? What HP is the electric motor? I believe that gas motor, mix the oil in, weighed considerably less than those batteries. Especially when some of them appear to be ahead of the front axle. As a sometime car butcher, I wasn't too impressed. If I change a motor in a car to one that never was installed in that model, my insurance wants to know. I think a "reconstructed" title may be in order. I doubt the State Police inspection guy would be amused.
I hear the plea for a people's car. I think it should come without a refueling requirement at all. Tesla had the electric car figured out long ago. Someone(s) didn't like the idea people were going to be able to go without fillups of any kind. He exploited something that likely still exists.

I think we could have a hydrogen powerplant that doesn't need refueling for far less than was just spent aquiring GM.
Instead we'll get disposable cars from China. Built by their military complex. Now don't push, stay in line, there'll be enough for everyone...

So you'd prefer a 14-gallon tank and gas lines of poisonous and highly combustible liquid and vapor combined with vast amounts of electric wiring? I'd take the batteries any day. Burning petroleum is ridiculously inconvenient and dirty as hell. Search youtube for "EV conversion." There's tons of them and they are completely legal and insured.

Exactly what car or truck has its Gas tank in the front of the vehicle?

Outside of the infamous Pinto's, it takes a whole lot of impact to have an explosion with current fuel tank setups. They have it figured out.

So, Yes I would and do prefer a 16 gallon tank in my case to your time bomb batteries.

Let it be stated that this array of batteries in the Saab is no different than a Golf Cart setup.
So the dude made a Saab golf cart, big deal.

Speaking of useless electric cars, where is the famous Zap cars that were supposed to be taking Lancaster county by storm?
Have not seen one, any one else see one on the road that is not driven by the dealer?

I think it's awesome that he did this himself. Good ol American ingenuity right there. Probably don't have to worry about crash test results as he built it himself. Tells me the big companies could do this if they really wanted to.

They already did. Electric cars at the turn of the last century. Till the more recent EV-1 GM built, leased, and scrapped. That Honda Clarity uses a fuel cell powered by hydrogen, stored in a tank, to make electric, that runs the car. Only the electric producing hydrogen powered fuel cell on that vehicle is any real advancement.

Thats what they have marketed, I don't believe thats all they can do.
