Police in Warwick Township have closed a large section of Route 772 in the wake of an accident Sunday night that claimed the life of an Ephrata woman.

Sheila R. Moyer, 37, died from injuries sustained in a two-car accident that occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday on Route 772 at Heck Road, between Rothsville and Lititz.

At press time, Warwick Township Police said Route 772 — from Main Street to Cinder Hill Road — will remain closed until further notice due to the accident scene investigation. The road was officially closed beginning at 6 a.m. Accident reconstruction experts were also on the scene late Sunday.

The accident occurred when a westbound BMW driven by John R. Armstrong Jr., 20, of Lititz, crossed into the oncoming traffic lane for unknown reasons and crashed into Moyer's Saturn sedan, police said.

Moyer was trapped inside her car, and it took rescue workers about 45 minutes to free her, police said. She was taken by ambulance to the Warwick Township Municipal Building, then airlifted by helicopter to Lancaster General Hospital's trauma unit, where she died from her injuries.

Officials said Armstrong was examined for injuries at the scene of the accident then released.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage.

Rothsville Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Lititz and East Petersburg companies, as well as Rothsville Ambulance, Warwick Ambulance, Medic 4 and Medic 12.

Steve & girls,

I was just informed about Sheila this evening when I got home.
Steve and girls, you girls probably don't remember me specially you younger ones. I was one of Sheila's teenage closest best friends that continued for years. Even though sometimes years went by between seeing each other, we always hugged and cuaght up with one anothers life when we did see one another. I was one of the two who basically hooked Steve and Sheila up together the many moons ago. Please know Steve and girls yous are all in my thoughts and prayers!!!! I am extremely saddened by your loss!
Sheila and I were best friends while back in school. We remained close for many years. We haven't seen each other for a few years, but when we did we would reminse and it almost seemed as though not much time had passed between times of seeing one another. We had our first babies around the same time. There are so many memories of times spent at her house and mine, before kids and spouses and some after. Sheila will be greatly missed by me and so many others! Rest in peace my dear friend!!!

Your friend,
Pam

What is the compulsion that motivates you to remind grieving people that their loved ones make errors in judgment?

I cannot relate to you as a human being.

Then please feel free not to!

I understand that many of the comments are about "not being too hard" on Mr. Armstrong, however, texting (yes, that is what was happening) while driving on that road is extremely foolish-and if it was the dropping of the phone that was the main problem-why in the world would his passenger not pick it up-that road is challenging with both hands and both eyes on the driving at hand. Is this "pointing fingers"-you bet!! To the comment about deal with it, cope with it and move on-your sympathy for her family and friends seems to be in short supply. This woman worked two jobs to support her daughters. These girls will feel the absence of their mother for many years to come. Some of you seem more concerned with how Mr. Armstrong is judged, he will be judged by how he handles this event and the rest of his life. The bulk of the sympathy should be directed at Sheila and her surviving family.
