(2)Denton E. Conklin Jr., 52, 90 Ashlea Gardens, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7 a.m. by Berks County Deputy Coroner Ellis J. Edmonds.
Caernarvon Township police in Berks County said Conklin was driving a pickup truck that collided head-on with another pickup truck about 5:45 a.m. near Heritage Drive.
A section of Route 23 was closed for about 3½ hours while police investigated.
Police gave this account, according to the Reading Eagle Web site:
The driver of the other pickup, Darrall Prutzman, 52, of Stowe in Montgomery County, was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, he veered across the center turn lane into the opposite travel lane and collided with Denton's work truck.
Prutzman was flown to Reading Hospital with unspecified injuries. He was in fair condition Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police didn't know if Prutzman was wearing a seat belt.
Denton, who was wearing a seat belt, died of chest injuries, Edmonds said. His death was ruled an accident.
Police are being assisted by the Berks County district attorney's forensic services unit in the investigation. They were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Twin Valley Fire Department and Elverson and Honeybrook ambulance units.
